Alabama game

Do you think there is anything to divisions being cancelled? I listen to a decent amount of college sports radio and it seems that a lot of talking heads are trying to run with the idea that with the 12 team CFP happening conferences should get rid of divisions. You hearing any rumblings of this or this possibly gaining momentum?

I'm hearing all kinds of stuff from different parties. I've been in favor of dropping divisions for years. And while the conferences will never do it because there's too much money at stake, they should drop the conference title games. They won't be beneficial going forward, especially for a conference like the SEC where the top two teams will make the playoff every year no matter what. They should drop divisions and set up as many tiebreakers as is practical.

Would you guys be in favor of ending this annual rivalry or keep it going? Personally I think it’s time we got rid of it I wouldn’t miss losing 45-10 or whatever every season. I say we start playing Ole Miss again or Arkansas both teams that we used to play every year. I especially miss the Ole Miss game we used to always play them in November and end our season against Ole Miss, Kentucky and Vandy. Now I’m sure I’m going to get roasted here for suggesting such a thing, but what does playing Alabama every year and getting our heads kicked in by 30 points every season do for us really? We have lost 14 straight def going to be 15 and more than likely this streak hits 20 games. This game used to be a great rivalry me and my dad went every year from 1989-1997 and we looked forward to it it was a marquee big SEC game of the season now it’s a joke a cupcake game for Bama and they can smoke their cigars every year and laugh at us. This game no longer has any meaning or revelance to the younger fans especially and they aren’t in our division so it would be easy to drop them off the schedule.
if we were a program that didnt have the tradition that we have, i would agree with you. While UT has been down a while it still has too long of a winning history to run from anybody. So instead of running from them, how bout just getting better. You cant compete for Natty's if you cant beat Bama so there aint a way to dodge them if winning is the ultimate goal.

If we want to play Bama annually then we need to earn that right by winning the conference and playing them in the championship.
The Volunteers have "earned that right" by virtue of having played the Crimson Tide annually for most of the past 120 years and having beaten them more times than any other school has.

I’d be all for getting rid of permanent rivalries all together and just rotating 2 west teams each season. I love playing different teams. It might actually help the Bama “rivalry” if we just play them every 3/4 years. It’ll be a huge deal each time. As it stands right now, we bring up the times 20 years ago when this game was competitive each year before getting our teeth stomped in.

Would you feel that way if UT was kicking Bama's a$$ every year?

Do you think we will beat them before 2030? Or even be halfway competitive with them? Honest answer
No not as long as Nick is there we wont beat them, and we won't compete for anything untill we up grade our recruiting and that wont happen anytime soon, i know its early but i don't see recuriting up grading with this staft, you won't win with 20 3 stars every year in the SEC.

Florida is a division opponent for one and while you guys have owned us since 2005 there have been at least some more closer and competitive games than the ones against Bama.

Since 1992, Tennessee is 10-18-1 vs. Alabama.

Since 1992, Tennessee is 6-23 vs. Florida.

Now, to "keep it real", I think all of this is a bunch of hogwash. Tennessee has been a bad football program for a decade. People speak about the "unfairness" of Alabama as if having to play them has cost Tennessee anything.

If Tennessee having played Alabama had cost Tennessee a playoff spot, a trip to the SEC championship game, etc., I would get it. It hasn't done that even once.

Tennessee has had a losing record 9 of the last 16 seasons. During this 14 year streak, Tennessee has entered the Alabama game ranked in only two meetings. During the Alabama streak, Tennessee has winning records against only Vandy, Kentucky, and Mississippi State (.500 against Carolina) as conference foes.

The problem ain't Alabama.

Hopefully, for you all, Heupel fixes the problem

I don’t think this staff will be able to recruit well enough in the SEC and especially against the big three. You can coach up three stars at UCF unfortunately it doesn’t work that way typically here or in the SEC you will get chewed up and spit out.
