Alabama football: At least five players have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus

That was my point. Contracting the virus outside appears to be highly unlikely because of the required virus load and the natural dissipation that occurs outside.

Here's how one race track got around the social distancing order here in NC. Two thousand people attended and not one arrest at this protest.

And I plan to be protesting every play that Florida runs September 26, 2020 from the south end zone GBO!

Ole Miss athletes, athletics staffer test positive for COVID-19, university confirms

"OXFORD — Two members of the Ole Miss athletics department, one student-athlete and one staff member, tested positive for COVID-19 on campus, an athletics spokesperson confirmed to the Clarion Ledger on Wednesday.

A second student-athlete also tested positive for COVID-19, Ole Miss assistant athletic director Shannon Singletary confirmed to the Clarion Ledger, but that athlete has not yet made it to campus."

With COVID-19 cases already appearing on football teams, how alarmed should we be?

The inevitable has already started. There are reports of multiple Alabama football players testing positive for COVID-19, three others at Oklahoma State, an athlete and staff member at Ole Miss, a football player at Farragut High School in Knoxville.

We need to ask ourselves how alarmed we should be with these positive cases on sports teams.

Because we’re going to keep seeing them.

There will be more — probably many more — reports of football players testing positive as colleges and high schools move forward in summer workouts with the goals of games this fall. And those will just be the ones we know about."

WHO do they think they are casually announcing that after all these protests, after we shut down everything, made millions lose jobs, lose money and escalated the suicide rate tenfold???

If they say its VERY RARE then how can you possibly justify a continuence of this rubbish.

We were doing this because we were most afraid of the asymptomatic carriers right?

Love it , spread it around ... build up that herd immunity . The more positive test that Show more have it , the faster we can get over this fear and panic .

Talk of football on empty campuses lays bare college sports’ craven system

"If you don’t yet comprehend the unapologetic and well-protected ruse of amateurism in major college athletics, here are two simple sentences to kindle your critical thinking: In many states, it may be too dangerous to have students on campus this fall. Nevertheless, universities are willing to consider staging football practices and games.

No school, at least in person. Yes football, by any unreasonable means necessary.

It’s not just a bad look. It’s coldhearted and unseemly but also unsurprising..."

That statement is a little on the hyperbole side in my opinion. I don’t read any news anymore because I think all people in the media are either liers or only report the part of their story that fits their agenda. Therefore I didn’t read your Washington Post link. That said, we should all know college football isn’t about promoting so called student athletes. They’re professionals that should get paid like minor league baseball players. It’s a business, not amateurism.

And very quietly colleges are acknowledging that if student don’t return to campus for in person learning that they will lose them to lower cost online options destroying the faculty community.

If the "health experts" are saying the protests are okay and ten thousand people can gather together for their cause, then the virus is simply not that dangerous. Who cares what the statistics show. Because chances are, even with a big increase in cases, the vast majority of people are going to be asymptomatic and the virus is not going to affect them all that much.

The message is clear. And its what should have happened from the very beginning instead of shutting the economy down. If you are elderly, or immune compromised, stay home, social distance, and limit going out in to public. If younger healthy people are around elderly or immune compromised, keep safe distance, do whatever to protect those people. Use common sense. But something tells me we shouldn't even be that concerned with doing this if the so called "health experts" are okay with thousands gathering for protests.

From what I can tell, the health experts (I’ll refrain from the scare quotes) aren’t ok with thousands of people gathering. I’ve read several articles about the risks although they’re obviously getting less attention these days with so much else going on right now. There’s also growing evidence about outdoors being much safer than indoors that wasn’t as solid even a few weeks ago, which is good news for both protests and sports.
