I'm in favor of letting the kid go where he wants. But I don't get Sankey's statement. If that's what he believes, why even have a rule that prevents transfers within the conference? That makes absolutely no sense.
He's distinguishing between undergraduate and graduate.
Kids completed his degree. Helped Bama meet their APR. Why should the school be able to prevent him going where he pleases?
No, there is an SEC rule prohibiting any player from transferring inside the conference, grad or not. It requires a waiver from the original school. That's why Saban is allowed to block Kennedy.

I think there is and should be a difference between what is allowed for grad transfers and guys who haven't earned their degrees. They need to set some hard guidelines for these situations. Transferring is starting to remind me of professional wrestling. If Mean Gene is looking for a job, he should be the designated guy to announce transfers, and build the hype.
Report: Alabama blocking grad transfer OL from talking to Vols

True, but the SEC can override Saban...again.
- "This isnt the first time Alabama has attempted to block a player from transferring within the conference, though. Back in 2016, Alabama attempted to prevent defensive back Maurice Smith from going to Georgia for his final year of eligibility. But despite their efforts to stop him from transferring to Georgia, the SEC intervened and allowed Smith to go to the Bulldogs."

That's incorrect. Saban ultimately relented. The SEC didn't actually do anything.
