'19 AL WR George Pickens (UGA signee)

Pretty sure there is a NCAA rule where walkons can receive a ship after they are two years removed from HS without being an initial counter. That's why you see so many walkons awarded scholarships once they become Juniors. You would think the same would apply to transfers if they are 2 years removed from HS... but that's just me. I guess if Gibbs did take an OV vs a UV then he would no longer be considered a walkon.

I’m stoked about Gibbs. No matter what side of the ball he’s but if the staff pushed so hard for JJ last yr if Pickens is that good then I think they’ll try until there is absolutely no way of getting him in. This staff is relentless!!! These guys talk the talk and walk the walk... no bricks here... just blood, sweat and cornbread

Pruitt keeps it private. A player can enroll on a non-athletic scholarship, then be put on an athletic scholarship at a later date to manage when he counts.
How many non athletic scholarships do you qualify for if you skipped classes all the time at the previous stop?

In every state but two, the No. 1 prospect signed in December. Alabama is the only state to have its top prospect committed, but unsigned, and that prospect is George Pickens. The five-star wide receiver out of Hoover High School committed to Auburn in July of 2017, over 18 months ago. He was the first 2019 commit for the Tigers, but he did not sign early, so there is still a lot of work to be done by Gus Malzahn and his staff. Auburn is trying to hold off Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and a few others, such as Florida and Florida State.
Pickens has not been considered a hard commitment for some time. He looked to be favoring LSU late in November and into early December. Now, could it be that Georgia and Tennessee are the biggest threats to Auburn? He visited Georgia this weekend and the Vols are likely to host him one of the next two weekends. This one is definitely far from over, even though Pickens is committed and signing day is only two and a half weeks away.
A lot of eyes will be on Alabama’s best.
