Al Wilson is a VFL for sure. Al was a great leader for the Vols BUT he even he had to mature into that role. He didn't step on campus ready for what he eventually became for us. I try to remember that when these kids step onto campus with all the accolades etc. Henry T is a rare exception but even he had to learn from Bituli and others. Glad Jeremy is embracing our history and not trying to erase it. Good to see AW. Thanks for sharing.
That is sad then. I am not against higher education but it isn’t for everyone and does not diminish you by not having it.
Maybe he doesn’t have a desire to coach. I for one would love to see him roaming our sidelines again.
It is sad as I want the most qualified person for any job. Just having a degree does not make you that person. I’m not saying it doesn’t help as it can. However, I meet highly educated fools all the time. On paper they fit the criteria but there is no substitute for actual experience.Requiring coaches to have a degree is not sad, its smart. Hate to use the corny phrase but most of these athletes will go pro in something other than sports. Al Wilson was and is a rare athlete and competitor. He stood out among great athletes and competitors.
The right thing here is to set an example for
athletes to get a degree. If you ca play at a high level for a long time in major college football then you are smart enough to get a degree. College is way more about perseverance than IQ. With exceptions to the one and done juco guys like CP.
Not sure if Wilson wants to be part of the staff but if he does I am sure there is a way to work around the rule. I don't think everyone on the staff has the degree requirement. If he wanted to work up the coaching ranks then he would need a degree.
