If it were a guarantee that the Vols had an Al Wilson somewhere among our LB's, who would have the best chance to reach that level of talent?

I think in a 3-4 scheme out of the stamce Jaques Smith kinda fits that mold of a physical freak that has a motor that runs hard the whole game.

The obvious choices are AJ and Maggitt.. Just because they are by far the most talented two players we have at the position. They're both young and a little raw, but the sky's the limit for them IMO.

Slightly off-topic - I heard a while back that Lathers was still a little tweaky with the ankle and was having some issues during workouts because of it. Does anybody have an update on that? I'm assuming CDD will address that during the spring practice opening presser..

Wilks, Rod
Williams, Jordan
Williams, Michael
Worley, Justin

Looks like we don't have anyone named this "Wilson, Al" anywhere on the current roster. I do know of a guy named Al Wilson that played for the Broncos though, which is sure to ruffle some feathers.

Jacques Smith isn't even close to Al Wilson. The freshmen are the only ones with the Al Wilson potential at LB on this team.

Exactly. Jacques Smith gets severely overrated due to being from Tennessee. He has been, at best, average his first two years.

And it isn't exactly reassuring that our Jack LB in the 3-4 will be someone who has trouble reading run plays.

On topic, AJ has the size and fit in the middle to be a great LB here. Probably not AW caliber but really good nonetheless.

No. No we do not.

It's rare that you get a player who can lead on the field and off like he did. There's no one even remotely close to that on this team from what I've seen.

Man alive.

Can you imagine the solid foundation at LB we would have if we had gotten Lamar Dawson and Otha peters?

AJJ Maggit and Dawson as sophs and peters as a freshman. Makes me sad. I hope we can sign 4-5 studs this next class.

A.J. Maggit, but i dont see him as being as vocal as al.wilson. I think J.Williams will surprise a lot of ppl this year....

I don't really know of any of our LB's to be vocal, but I would imagine Maggit or Johnson would be the scariest with threats.

They both started and excelled for an entire season....they are not raw.

AJ will be an all american

How quickly Tennessee fans forget that Freshmen and Sophomores aren't supposed to contribute significantly. On teams with quality depth, Juniors and Seniors are asked to carry the load as we will begin to see this year.

I think both do have the same ability as AW, but do those players have the same work ethic & determination as AW? That's what seperates an average player from a great player.
I like CM athletic ability but will be be a Vocal Leader?
I like AJ size & ability, a MLB is usually the leader of a Defense.

Both at some point WILL Be ALL AMERICANS!!!

Juniors and Sophomores will be carrying the load with a few Freshman and Seniors sprinkled in.

It's going to take a couple more classes to get back to SEC depth and leadership.

I hope we have a LB that tends to get a few to many personal fouls. I want to see some mean s**t. I want to see some fights. Tenacious, aggressive defense. Anger. Oh how I hope we have some mad players on D. I MISS IT!!

I don't care if they rip someones helmet off as long as their head is still in it.

Wilson had it. A defining Al Wilson moment is him jumping a snap against Florida and just piledriving the QB as soon as he received the snap.
