But without Trout, the Angels lose more games than the Tigers would with Cabrera out. Doesn't that make Trout more valuable?

Um.... no. That is speculation. A rare feat that was 45 years in the making makes you quite valuable! Trout did have a nice year however. There has to be some award out there for him (Field & Stream trophy maybe?). Just not MVP.

Based on what?

Cabrera has had more late inning and game winning RBI's than Trout by far, which = playoffs and that's what teams want to do.

This is false. The league had a whole season to adjust to Trout and he made the better adjustments.

Trout's avg for May-.324, June-.372, July-.392, August-.284 and Sept-.257 Cabrera May-.298, June-311, July-.344, August-.357 and Sept .308

How do we know this and what does this have to do with this season?

True, there is no way to know if Trout can continue to have MVP type seasons but Miggy has proven he can.

So doing something that has never been done equates to just a "nice year?"

If you can hit for average and power and lead the league in both plus rbi's then you deserve it.

What if you can hit for average and power and steal 50 bases and play extraordinary defense? That'd be real special.

It would make you Willie Mays. Does it trump a triple crown? Good argument both ways. Like comparing Mays to Yaz. But this year I take Migs. He could have lost the 3C, but instead he excelled at the end and won it. Nothing against Trout. At all.

There is no doubt Trout has had a great year. I would just wait a couple years to see if he can keep it up like the great ones do.

Well if it's up to you I suppose the best defensive player wins the MVP instead of the MVP.

@MWhickerOCR: Cabrera played 70 games against AL. Central staffs that ranked 9th, 10th, 13th and 14th in ERA

@MWhickerOCR: Trout played 50 games against A.L. West staffs that ranked 2d, 4th and 8th in A.L. ERA

And the Angels have the best record in baseball since Trout was called up, and a better record overall than the Tigers. First 30/40 rookie in history. Lead the majors in steals. Plus Trout committed 1/3 fewer errors as Cabrera in the field.

No, but defense and baserunning should be considerations, and Cabrera is terrible at both
