He only had 13 tackles against Alabama and 11 against LSU. Obviously he can't cut it in the SEC because he doesn't run a 4.6 at linebacker.

The only area he struggles is in pass defense trying to run with some of those short crossing routes, but other than that, he comes to play

If our secondary ever gets their head on straight, I don't think AJ will be asked to do as much in pass coverage. Plus, you have to think with another year of conditioning that area will improve for him.

Agree - thank you for a reasonable response....those are in short supply these days

I will own up and admit that I was wrong on AJ's ability to cover space. I think I mistook an inability to play fast because of inexperience with an inability to move fast.

He and Maggitt are going to be very good.

Will AJ be moved to MLB next year when Lathers returns? I don't see Santos starting his first year.

the depth issue is partially BS there are guys on the roster that have experience and have played in years past and done well, they dont get a chance it looks more like coaching errors than depth issues

what other profession can you use the excuse we need 4 or 5 years to be better, child please!

Please...tell us who you are referring to.

He would definitely be better suited at the Mike. He still has a few issues with lining up out of position causing him to take bad angles, but he is not the only one to have that problem.

he also has problems finding the play, he seems lost a lot of the time

I would liken it more to Tebow trying to change his throwing motion. We are playing with a lot of youngsters who are used to being able to line up wherever they want and still be able to make plays in HS. As much as you go over and over it in practice, it takes actually executing it repeatedly in game situations to truly learn it.

If being lost on the field nets you 24 tackles against the #1 and #2 teams in the country, then let's hope more of our players get "lost" more often. AJ is a beast. He's also a freshman playing in the best football league in the land, and he's holding his own out there.

Lining up correctly is only part of the game (definitely important) but what you do when the ball is snapped is also important. See Zach Rogers: he can line up correctly, YAY!!!!
