AJ Johnson can't catch a break

Victim? If he didn't play at UT would he be a victim in this situation? Also what a crummy thing to say that "we as fans " grouping millions of people together to be somewhat guilty for someones lack of character. NO.....

I was thinking same thing, how do we as fans encourage drunk driving and drugs?!

I hated that his case has gone on so long, but this is nothing but his own decision, and bad decision put him situation with the girl even if he did not commit crime against her.

Dang..hate it for him. But, nothing to do with "catching a break"...making the right decisions and not being in the wrong place at the wrong time with usually do the trick.

Put some teeth in the laws. If you get convicted of DUI, you should lose the car you were driving.

If you kill a deer illegally they can and will take your truck, atv, gun and anything else that you used in the crime. If you kill someone while driving intoxicated they slap you on the wrist and you'll end up serving less than 2 years.

There already are teeth in the laws. For a misdemeanor offense (which it is in most cases) DUI penalties are severe. It comes with a mandatory minimum jail sentence, the loss of license for a year, fines, court costs, community service (picking up trash on the highway), and then SR-22 insurance if you are convicted plus the cost and inconvenience of an ignition interlocking device... and it can also include the seizure of the vehicle (though that is rare). Also, a good DUI defense attorney in Knoxville doesn't come cheap if you choose to fight it. The best DUI defense specialist is probably Steve Oberman. Even for a 1st offense, he will charge you at least $5K - probably more.

No catching a break about it. Everyone is responsible for their own actions. I got a Dwi when i was 17 and another one when I was 19. Looking back now I should of went to jail, but I didn't. Trust me I was young and I wanted to blame everyone except myself. Thank god I didn't kill anyone. Now that I am 29 I know that the only person to blame was myself, luckily I eventually learned and this past July 5th was 4 years since I had a drink. Mr. Johnson needs to get a grip on life, if you ask me he caught A break by not killing anyone or killing himself.

I think awaiting trial for aggravated rape has created a stress that he is unable to handle. Not defending him in any way but when stress or depression are extreme then you continue to make poor decisions. I pray he can turn it around and become productive.

Very few have aggravated rape pending cases...but everyone has varying degrees of significant stress at certain times. Hope he turns it around too...maybe he has, but just made another poor decision in a moment in time.

I've unfortunately made that decision, and it wasn't bad luck, it was a horrible choice. I'd give anything to change that stupid, stupid night. I hope he can make better decisions going forward.

Poor guy just keeps making stupid decisions and drives high as a kite risking lives. Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there, OP. Not driving drunk/stoned would have been ideal. He made his mess.

How do we know he wasn't doing same stuff before the rape charge?

Bro he sat through 3 red lights then rolled into a stop sign, I never left a joint and been that trashed.....

I didn't know the whole story but any person under 150 lbs that has a big mixed drink "a big margarita" or two glasses of wine and is stopped immediately after would fail a breathalyzer according to the current law.

I lost a brother to a drunk driver so I agree with the law but I understand that everyone breaks it

Man, and all this time I thought Antonio Callaway was a knucklehead with NFL talent who made poor decisions off the field.

Little did I know he simply can't catch a break.

Thanks OP! :)

There's a difference between .08 or .05 and .15 or others. I'm no DR or lawyer but I know the bars and such serve ppl that they know are driving and if the police wanted to they could arrest half the ppl driving home from games. I've watched State troopers steer drunks out off NASCAR races at Bristol and Talladega

Clearly a showed poor judgement, but unless you know him, I wouldn't be calling his character into question. He made a mistake, we all have.
