AJ Johnson Accused of Sexual Assault

Besides the rape charges, that Marijuana Grinder is certainly not an item a football player should have inside his apartment. The pot grinder certainly raises questions about drug use while playing.

Just a pepper grinder according to the latest rumors

I read an article a few minutes ago and it talked about sealing the file. Apparently they got the DNA tests back and sealed the file
Until the investigation is complete. Just wondering if there is any law geniuses out there that could shed some light on if it is a good thing or a bad thing.

I dont think it's about good anymore. Just bad and real bad.

Not that the rape allegations aren't bad enough, and certainly should be the focus here, but even if all of that turns out to be false, no denying the "marijuana grinder" in his apartment. Before all of you start saying "all college kids do it" or explaining how its an ethnic thing...whatever, AJ is/was/supposed to be a leader on this team, and apparently didn't learn that lesson the last time he got into trouble. That's very disappointing to me, aside from the other stuff, which if proven true will make the pot thing seem like nothing, but even if the situation hadn't occurred, apparently AJ had been smoking pot...which again, regardless of your opinion, the facts are that it is illegal. Im sure there are many others, white and black players...smoking pot and I probably don't even want to know everything else that goes on that we don't know about...I guess im kind of old fashioned and gullible and like to think that these guys are smarter than that and are staying away from that stuff. I don't know why im surprised every single time a college athlete with such potential and hope for millions $$$ would still be stupid enough to do the things they do to screw it all up.

No way a kid gets in trouble even if it is a pot grinder. Remember the pic of Ole Miss' All American actually smoking a bong? As much as I don't agree with it, society today is devaluing pot more and more. In 10 years, I believe it will be looked at just like beer and liquor in terms of availabilty and use.

Since the victims names are in the documents the popo want that hidden for now. I guess until after charges are or are not filed.

I'm just wondering how the "pot grinder" comes into play into all of this and why it was siezed. The incident report ruled out drug use as a specific factor. Now the cops get a search warrant for the apt. and find this. Would this not be considered outside of the scope of the warrant? I fail to see how a herb grinder (regardless what it is used for) is or would be considered evidence in a rape case unless use is actually implicated to be a factor in the rape.

People already know who the two women are from the police report and from others at the party. The media doesn't release the names, but they have them. Message boards have been very circumspect in removing posts that ID the women, but a lot of people know their names.

The DNA results are just evidence-- hardly a smoking gun with a claim of consensual sex.

it is very disappointing to see athletes of such a high caliber use alcohol/drugs of any kind. His body, healthy and performing at a high level, is his meal ticket. Why would you hurt something with such an up side. I realize it's part of many a college experience, but surely someone could have been counseling AJ about the next step, getting ready for the combine, do's and don'ts for what NFL teams will be looking for in draft picks.

Yes, those items could belong to someone else; college kids in and out each other's apartment....but, it's just sadder and sadder for the consequences on this young man's life.

Wonder if there is "other" DNA as well. Maybe that's what they are trying to seal....

If the case goes to court it is imperative that jurors know little or nothing about the case other than what is disclosed to them through the trial itself. If there was information in these files that was made public (and thus potentially known by the jurors) and later ruled to be inadmissible for one reason or another, it could deny due process.

Or there could be information in the files that investigators do not wish to be known because they feel it could influence people to answer (or not answer) questions in a way they may not otherwise.

It really doesn't point in one direction or the other.

so if there are no charges filed and this is cleared up before the bowl game....think he is allowed back on the team?

If he comes out looking somewhat clean and this pot grinder doesn't amount to anything, I don't see why he wouldn't be. At this point, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything though. No matter what the outcome is, my hunch is that we've seen the last of AJ. I'm wrong more often than not though so he will probably play vs. Vandy.

They can seize drug paraphernalia if it is found during the search. It doesn't have to be related to the reason for the search.

I got roasted last week for saying AJ was done at UT. Dilusional "insiders" were posting he would be back for the Missouri game, citing thigpen's proclamation. This thing is going to a jury. It's no longer about whether or not AJ plays football, it's about whether or not he spends the next 15-60 years in prison.

You mean other than AJ or MW? That could be why they'd seal it, so people didn't just automatically assume she was lying based on promiscuity. My first thought on the used condom...if someone was smart enough to use that in the rape to avoid leaving DNA on the victim, why would they then just throw it in their trash instead of destroying it?

Neither good or bad, just means they don't want to release the facts and circumstances in the case to the media. This is very common in high profile cases such as this one.

More likely to the Grand Jury for possible indictment - that is if the DA has half a brain.
