Ainge Nailed It

So who is to blame, Hooker for not throwing to McCoy or Fant not running deep enough?
Because once again, no one has demonstrated how what Heupel did on that last drive that took them down to the 30 included going for it on 4th down was "taking the foot off the gas". Would you rather have taken deep shots and given Florida the ball back with 2 or 3 mins?
The coaching staff for running it straight between the tackles three straight times when Florida had stacked the box. No need for deep shots. But there are other plays to pick up first downs you know.

Had nothing to do with sportsmanship. Goodness. We were running clock. Same people criticizing it would be also on the staff if we had thrown 3 straight incompletions. It was the correct strategy…and the 4th down play was wide open.
If you HAVE to go for it on fourth down in your four minute offense, you ain’t doing it right.

I just hope Heupel learns from it. With our explosive offense, coupled with a weak secondary, we have to keep our foot on the gas.

That said, Heupel is infinitely better at managing the game than Butch Jones. Jones would have a 2 possession lead and would still have us snapping the ball with 18 seconds on the play clock in the 4th Quarter. Heupel has made some mistakes, but he's never made any ridiculously obvious game management blunders like Butch.

Here, Here! - Butch single-handedly ruined an afternoon of sweet WY fishing with the collapse against OU.
Never has a man taken less joy in catching 18" Cutthroats on a dry fly.

Kiffin and Ole Miss did the same exact thing vs. Kentucky. Kentucky rallied and almost pulled the game out until the final fumble by the Cats. I agree the team mounting the comeback is the aggressor while the team protecting the lead plays conserva and it can certainly backfire.

Not sure who else listens to their show/podcast. I do once in a while. Today to begin hour 2 they discussed CJH's comment about the team playing like it is 0-0 all the time. He pointed out that it wasn't the team that took their foot off the gas vs UF with a 17 point game. It was the coordinators' playcalling that changed. He pointed out that you can say "0-0" all you want but if the coaches go prevent... the players get that message and their intensity drops.

I hope ALL learned that lesson- players and coaches.
As fans of Tennessee football, I think we all know more than anyone that playing prevent always ends badly, especially against UF. Tennessee could have pulled even further ahead with the offense and slowed the UF offense with our standard defense. Game didn’t even need to be minutely close.

They were up 11 with 1:20 left when they ended that 4th down attempt.
Had Florida had an extra minute on the clock, would they have scored and won the game? I think it's very possible.
I can only imagine the outrage had Heupel thrown it and it be incomplete and they get 40 extra seconds and Florida win the game. "Butch Heupel" and "another choke job by Tenn".
NO WAY I'm throwing in that situation.

What are you talking about?
Tenn 2nd to last drive was a TD.
Last drive they.luckily bled the clock down to where Florida had 1:20 to score twice.
On Florida's 2nd half possessions they went:
Touchdown
Fumble at Tenn's THIRTEEN.
Touchdown
End of game
At what point did the defense "slow" Florida's offense?
I swear its.like some of you watched a different game than I did.

Not even sure what that means…field position and yards to go dictated going for it. You keep running in that situation.

I generally agree with the OP, but I must say, I lost a lot of confidence in the things Ainge says when he made the comment the other day that Levis would be just as good as Hooker if he were our QB. That was insane.

corrtizone works great, but you can't do it frequently or your body will stop making it. I really doubt the players are getting opiate based pain killers on the sidelines.

You didn’t see the loose D on last 2 TD drives by UF? I know our defense was bad all game, but we changed it at the end and our final drive was burning clock, which is great, but we could have almost certainly gotten a few first downs and, ultimately, scored on the last drive. I know being up by 18 at that point in the game, you want to end it, but the O couldn’t be stopped.

Of course it was evident. That is the whole point. We were doing exactly what Florida expected us to do and playing their game instead of ours. That’s what made it so ridiculous.
What is Tennessee’s football team best known for? An offense that gobbles up yards and scores points. What do we do in the most important series of the season so far? Consciously STOP gobbling up yards and scoring points 😬

Running the clock out is the right move. Should have worked. Honestly I thought we should have kicked the FG there

If you can’t average more than 3.33 yards per play in three consecutive plays with the offensive weapons we have, the play calling is questionable to say the least. Florida didn’t stop our offense all afternoon. So we stopped it ourselves

to each his own.

You mean the thing that didn't happen? You're convinced it has a great chance of happening?

Maybe you should look at actual onside kick recovery rates.
Yeah I’m a browns fan and was at that hers game where it happened to us. Biggest difference was the browns didn’t stay in bounds with its 4 minute offense. The backs ran out like 2,3 times.
The last time a game got blown that badly was in 2003. It was also the browns that did it.

When I played high school football, 87-89, I hurt me knee and was injected with novocaine (I believe it was) during several games. It could keep me going, but there was hell to pay later. I definitely feel it now.

vfl82jp,When you have real pain, whether from surgery or injury, you will not get addicted to the pain killers. It's when you keep taking them after you no longer need to,that addiction can occur.I had an injury in 1999, a torn tendon and acruptured tendon in my left hip.I was given darvoset and demerol taking six each daily. When it was resolved after three weeks,I stopped taking them cold.No addiction. If you need it,as Hendon did,if he was given something for relief,he'll be fine.

Why didn't our defensive coaches call the interception play until they needed it at the very end? If our defensive coaches listen to me and call that play more often, and our #2 overall in country scoring offensive coaches listen to you guys and call the plays you want then we will be in business.

Depends on the injury. For example, an AC sprain can take a local injection into the joint with local such as lidocaine + marcaine.

Something like Toradol (ketorolac) is intra-muscular. It’s a strong NSAID. Think of it like a strong ibuprofen or like Mobic (meloxicam) except IM.

They aren’t getting opioids on the sideline and you can’t give an anesthetic like lidocaine, marcaine, etc iv (not in the OR or ICU at least). That’s just for local use. Also not getting cortisone on the sideline. A steroid like that takes longer to take effect and the game would be long over by then. Now during the week in the training room is different.

IV lidocaine at 1.5mg/kg is gaining traction in the ER for renal colic. Has had pretty good outcomes the few times I’ve used it.
