Ainge Frustrated in Saturday Night's Scrimmage

Good to hear Berry getting a pick again. All those dropped passes are something I didn't wanna hear though, especially with the tight ends.

We saw Brown and Cottam catch well enough last year.. I wouldn't worry about it too much with them.. more than likely it was just a bad night - but I didn't like seeing Taylor dorp a wide open pass.

I'm starting to get worried a little bit. Ben Martin could be a huge loss if it's bad. I'm not quite as worried as I would be if he were older though, because sometimes the younger guys make a bigger deal about injuries than the older ones. I'm also worried about the facts that O'Neal has yet to dominate like I thought he would, and Vinson has been awful. Those guys were supposed to be 2 of the biggest 3 playmakers, the third being Coker who is suspended. The good news is I haven't heard many complaints about the line yet, so that is a plus, and Darnius Moore may be a huge brightspot in this freshman class. I'm tellin' ya, we know how to play high school football here in Texas.

The wide receivers are definitely dissapointing me so far. I have heard nothing good about them in fall practice other than "they're fast." i'm with you though, I thought that O'Neal would have stepped up by now.

Good news from the scrim was that the WRs had no missed assignments, never lined up incorrectly, etc.

Is everyone more upset that the new guys are not playing well? Could it be that the guys in our system from last year actually have a better grasp on the offense? From the sounds of things, the new guys aren't picking up on the scheme as quickly as hoped. The drops (as discussed in another thread ad nauseum) are discouraging by the TEs and WRs. But, from the interviews with Cut and gang, it is not the norm in practice. The O-line, from what I am reading and hearing, is kicking some a%$. If we can run the ball, I am sure that play-action will open up some routes for our guys, no matter who they are.

"There was more consistency," UT Coach Phillip Fulmer said. "You take away the drops and offensively you probably have a pretty good day. I've been on both sides of this coin. Tomorrow it could be completely different."
He's the master of speaking and saying nothing at all at the same time.

I hope our O-line is really that good... and this isn't a case of our D-line being bad. I guess we'll find out soon.

I'm really encouraged by what I've heard on the team so far. There are some areas that need improvement, but that is the norm for every team at this point. What we have so far, I think can easily take Cal and USM. We have plenty enough time to improve for UF.

That USM game is a trapper if I have ever seen one. Scary game for the Vols.

What do you want him to say Deeble? Sounds to me like he had a few points to make and made them.

1. The team is getting more consistent with practice.
2. It was a good day, save the drops.
3. While it was good, tomorrow it might be bad. It could be better as well.

He isn't going to come out and tell the media the same things he will discuss with the team, but he is hitting his points.

It is scary, but I think there are a few saving graces.

1. It is the home opener. Air Force wasn't.
2. We had Air Force last year to wake us up. The team will remember that.
3. We still have a young team and these players will need to improve every week.

USM is ranked 24 by The Sporting News (who usually loves UT) and I think are conf. champions. Tough home opener. I think we should beat them, but not a lashing like last years home opener. We might possibly have the toughest 1st quarter schedule in the country.

Yeah, USM is stout. They are a bowl team. I think they may give us more trouble than Cal, but I still think it is a 2-3 TD win.

That would be awesome, and with a Cal win I would think that UF would be a game we should be favored. But, as we all know, that is why we play the games! I am ready for the speculation to end and the party to begin. Could 2 weeks be any longer?

I think UF will still be favored. It is at UF. They are 3/6 in the polls and will be 2-0 when we play them. We may be in the top 10, though, so it should be a top 10 matchup.

Troy......is in trouble. Good luck to the condoms! Didn't they almost beat FSU not too long ago?
