I would put up Ainge's core of receivers against anything Ryan at BC or Dixon at Oregon has.
Ryan really doesnt have alot to work with. I watched that game last night, and the midget doing the stiffarm trophy should be his. Tebow, Hart and Mcfadden all have talent at every position by them, Ryan is on a mediocre team and hes leading them to wins. I dont think BC is a #2 team in America by any means but Blacksburg is a tough place to play.

If you had BC's schedule, you might be a one loss team right now.

Tebow has a chance to wrestle it back away from him tomorrow, I think. I mean, other than the last 5 minutes of that game, neither Ryan nor the rest of his team looked like much. If BC goes undefeated, I think he will get the nod if for no other reason than that he will have carried them on his back in the crucial moment (the winner factor) and also because everyone will think, and probably rightly so, that Tebow is just a sophomore.

one question TVA, which quarterback currently on our depth chart has led Tennessee to a big win?

It's amazing that anyone can spin this season's defensive woes into something negative about the QB, he may not have gotten it done against Florida and Alabama, but with the personnel, who would have? And seriously, with the atrocious play calling how is he supposed to keep us in a game when we let teams put up 40 and 50 points nearly every time we have been on the road this year.

When was our last, big win?

Casey beating Miami at Miami?

Is that big?

This year against Georgia, last year against Georgia, last year against Cal, two years ago against LSU (led by Rick "Mooseknuckle" Clausen), the year before against Florida. All big wins at the time.

There are a thousand (I realize 1000 is an exaggeration :ermm:) QB's that are just as big (or bigger) thatn Ainge and jave just as much arm strength as Ainge that have better resumes and have a better trackk record of pulling games out in the clutch when their team seems to have momentum going against them.

Well, there really aren't. The guy is 6'6" tall, at 220 still has some filling out to do, and has a very good arm. His stats for his Jr and Sr year are going to be very good, both in moving the ball (yards and tds,) and taking care of it (comp % and ints.) I don't mean to turn a Heisman conversation into an NFL one, but I will presume that he will score well on the Wunderlicht test (I have no idea how to spell that word.) I don't think his team's record is really going to be held against him once pro days and combines start, although his propensity to get hurt might.

Like him or not as UT's quarterback, Ainge has a lot of good things going on in his bio.

TVA I thought you would be more critical of this thread.

I call a spade a spade. Ainge has done some good things this season and last. For me to deny that the guy has improved more than I expected under Cuttclife would be dishonest.

But having said that, I think that Ainge has reached the peak of his potential under Cutcliffe. He's not making mistakes that cost us games (LSU 2005 almost). But he isn't making plays to win us games, either. He's just good enough... just good enough to be our best option to win, but not good enough to be a QB that can get us over the top to actually win. He's neither good enough to be a stone cold Tennessee great, but he's not bad enough to have a a consideration about replacing him.

He reminds me of Patrick Ewing in NYC. He was just good enough for the Knicks to say, "where would we be without him?". And on the flip side, just bad enough to say, "where would we be if we traded him and go somebody different?".

The Knicks are still paying for investing so much in Ewing. Hopefully, we can get a fresh coach and have them get Crompton or Coleman coached up enough to where we can actually get over the hump of mediocrity.

actually that is a pretty fair assessment, although I still think he would be better with better play calling and perhaps if Meachem had stayed.

In addition to Manning not winning, why would Ainge be considered for Heisman when Tee Martin wasn't? I do agree ESPN had a lot to do with Manning not winning and Martin was just overlooked because he was a star who was a soft-spoken leader and didn't toot his own horn. Fulmer could have helped him on that.

A side note, ESPN stands for:

Exceptionally
Stupid
Prognosticating
Network

No one on the current roster has lead this team to a big victory. An Ainge lead team lead Tennessee to 13 points in Florida and 17 in Bama. Ainge lead us to 31 in California. Obviously, Crompton or Coleman wouldn't have done any better. But in terms of the other games on the schedule, you could make a great argument that we win against USM and Arky St with Crompton or Coleman and it would be a toss up if we win UGA and Miss St.

Either way, at this point, 2-5 isn't much better than 4-3. The Vols are gonna lose at least one more game (Kentucky is a lock for a loss) and we are not going to win the SEC East, muchless the SEC conference title with Ainge as the QB. It would have taken a bunch of flukes out of out control for us to play in Atlanta. Even if the Vols make it to ATL, you can;t say that Ainge lead us there. You would have to honestly say that Florida let opportunities slip out of their hands and Tennessee slipped in through the backdoor.

can anyone tell me why ainge is not in the heisman discussion? he is the passing leader in the sec and has the stats to compete with any qb in the nation. he plays in the sec so if you was to put him in any other conferance he would dominate. all the other qbs mentioned in the heisman race play weak schedules and rack up stats. i know tennessee isnt having the greatest year but he cant do it all himself. i was just wondering if i was the only one who felt this way?

Cal 45 - TN 31
FL 59 - TN 20
AL 41 - TN 17

Nuff said !

4-3 or 2-5 isn't a recipe for SEC championship success. The first goal in any season is to compete for the conference championship. Normally, 4-3 isn't gonna cut it. But since this is a wacky year, the Vols actually have an outside chance at the SEC East...

To me, 2-5 may look worse on the all time record books, but in terms of results and putting items in the trophy case, 2-5 = 4-3 at this point in the season.
