Yes but those expectations need to be tempered with a dose of reality. This football program didn't go to **** in a year and a half. It's simply unrealistic to expect CBJ and staff to build it back in that same amount of time.

Reality is we're playing mediocre football. Our defense may play like champs, but our offense gives games away. Where are the adjustments on offense week from week? Where is the player progression? And it's not entirely on the OL. Playcalling has been less than stellar and Worley has started to play scared.

I'm not calling for Butch's head(yet), but I expect him to fix things as the season progresses. I expect him to own up to his shortcomings, and not give the fans bs like "Be patient". I understand mistakes will be made, but freakin' own them. Admit when you screw up so we know you're not trying to fool us into believing "all is well" when it obviously isn't. We know what's broken on this team. I want to see Butch own it and fix it. That's why he gets paid to be a football coach. If he can't fix it, then changes need to happen.

And no, I don't necessarily think we'll see a major shift in the w/l ratio this year with fixes made, but at least we would have something to be confident about. Seeing the same nightmare scenarios play out week after week is not inspiring. Seeing the same mistakes repeated, seeing that problems are apparently going unaddressed, that just completely demoralizes the fanbase.

You win with both. He's recruiting how any coach at Tennessee should recruit. He's done a real bad job of everything else.

Just stop. Now your fitting into a category I didn't even name in my initial thread. If anyone could recruit that was the coach at Tn then we wouldn't be in this mess we are!

Asinine. He gets paid like 9th in the sec in coaching salary. But yet he is in top 5 in recruiting the last two years. That is the life blood of a successful sec football program. You don't win with X's and o's, you win with jimmys and joes.

How are those jimmys and joes working out for Florida and Georgia? All those years of great recruiting by Mark Richt, how many NCs does he have? Once you get on the field, the x's and o's matter a lot more.

Let's plug a hole that is the fastest flowing before we get into the other leaks. I'm not gonna argue on how great our OC is. The jury is still out. I know that a poor line, from past experiences, kills any scheme you might have. I also know that I saw FSU run some eerily similar plays Tonite that we run. Just saying.

That line of thinking is why I believe you pull Worley after the second pick. You cannot turn the ball over like he has been and win.

Let's be honest, the Legacy Class last year basically recruited itself. Yes, Butch helped pull it together, but it wasn't a typical recruiting cycle for UT. I don't want to undersell Butch, but let's not oversell him either. It was a unique class.

As for this year, last I checked, NSD hadn't arrived yet. Having yet another legacy as the centerpiece of this class bodes well, but let's wait for the ink to dry on those LOIs before we celebrate.

After a loss like this, you always have your fans on the ledge, the fans that were unrealistic in the beginning, numerous troll threads just to get the true fans pissed, the pseudo fans that could careless, and the realists that try to calm everyone. One thing you get out of a moment like this is you can tell which ones are which. I always try to mark the ones that are trolls in this situation. They usually are quite obvious.

and knowing who some of the trolls are, I do enjoy some of their post.

But something else I've always wanted to ask, who is the lovely lady in your avatar?

Our problem is we put too much logic into this. Good sheep say "Butch gets it" and then bury their heads in the sand.

I absolutely think that it is unfair if anyone expected us to win this game tonight. However, I think it is completely fair that we expect to give them as good a game as Memphis did. Unfortunately we weren't able to accomplish that.

I also think that any SEC team that has four wins basically built into the schedule (Vandy, USU, Chatt, and ASU) should be expected to win 2 more measly games to become bowl eligible. If Butch isn't able to get to .500 with those 3 OOC games and the weakest East in my lifetime, people need to at least start asking themselves if this is the right guy or not.
If he get's to 6, we should roll into next year and then (and only then) expect to compete with everyone on our schedule. Just my two cents.

No if we'd stop enabling laziness and mediocrity and hiring coaches way out of their depth, we wouldn't be in this mess we're in.

EXACTLY!! what is the definition of insanity? doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

You're right.......let's criticize the fan base instead of those making millions of dollars that are doing a half @ss job.

Okay, so we lose on the road, to team that just beat A&M and Bama, and let's not forget what Bama did to poor A&M last night. The fact that Worley didn't leave that game on a stretcher is a miracle. I'm surprised we were even in it for as long as we were. If we had an offensive line with a pulse it would've been a much different game.

Thats it. When Coach Doug Mathews all but came flat out and said this morning and that he has no clue in what we are trying to accomplish on offense. Plus the fact we are not making changes to help the oline out then i feel pretty good being on on the opposite side of the fence from the "like" whores like the op.

You hide and watch, pal. If we end this season with one conference win or less, CBJ's seat will be hotter than Hades

Nothing could be farther from the truth, he has one recruiting class so far.

Look at it this way, if Hart fires Butch after two recruiting classes and doesn't give him time to build depth what coach in their right mind would want to come here after that?

Ok. Let's say all you slash and burn whores get your way. Let's say enough of you football challenged minds get together and Butch jones is fired. The recruiting class falls apart and goes elsewhere. No coach in their right mind would come here after what we did to a guy with two top 5 recruiting classes . No one would respect the program because you only gave CBJ 2 years to put out the dumpster fire that was UT. We would be lucky to get coach John Boy Dowe from single A high school in Delaware at that point. I sure hope you 'hate' whores don't get your way.
