Aguilar for Heisman?

Agreed. Jayden Daniels won it for a LSU team that lost 3 regular season games.

The big thing is looking good every game. UGA was likely the toughest defense we're going to see, so that gives me a lot of hope for the rest of the season. That and the WRs just being studs this year. Probably our best overall receiving core in terms of raw talent, that we've had under Heup.
Aguilar won’t come close to Daniels total stays though.

Daniels ran for over a thousand yards though on top of his elite passing stats. Aguilar will need to win big most likely to get in that conversation, because he isn’t going to have huge rushing stats.
It helps that no one has separated themselves yet among any of the top ranked teams. I know that seems silly to say after only 3 weeks, but there have been a lot of years where a Bryce Young or Joe Burrow have already jumped out in front of everyone else while also playing on a top ranked team. We aren't seeing that yet.

Nussmeier, Arch, and Allar have been mediocre so far. Moore has been pretty good. Sayin has been pretty good. Beck probably has performed the best among the top tanked teams. So far, Aguilar is outperforming all of these guys, imo. Or at the very least, he's right on the same pace.

There’s a lot of season yet to be played! But this is VN so full steam ahead 😂

Here’s every QB who has thrown for 4 TDs on a Kirby Georgia defense:

2017 Drew Lock (Mizzou, Seahawks)

2019 Joe Burrow (LSU, Bengals)

2020 Mac Jones (Alabama, 49ers)

2020 Kyle Trask (Florida, Bucs, released)

2022 CJ Stroud (OSU, Texans)

2025 Joey Aguilar (Tennessee, ?)

There’s zero chance of this.
Aguilar has been outstanding and I love him, go Vols, but…

He’s not talented enough, throws off his back foot too much and isn’t accurate enough to be regarded as this nations best player.

Even if he improves, and proves me wrong, my vote would likely go to Brazzell. Their chances are co-dependent and Brazzell Dazzle is where the magic is made.

Even if he outshines his teammate, lest y’all forget, he doesn’t play for a Heisman team.
If we go 10-2 or somehow run the table which means ending streaks in Bama and Gainesville and make it to Atlanta, I think Aguilar will be a top 3 candidate. I still think its Carson Beck's to lose though

Also, you know Kristen Keys is really glad he flipped his commitment, meanwhile LSU with the Heisman hopeful struggle to score even after getting a bunch of picks vs Florida. Hope the recruiting mo gets rolling

Not that crazy of a thought. His odds moved up substantially over the weekend.

"Aguilar entered the season with +8000 odds to win the trophy. Going into the Georgia game, it was already cut down to +5000. That was tied for the 22nd-best odds to win the award in the country. Now, according to FanDuel on the morning of Sept. 14, 2025, Aguilar has +1600 odds to win the Heisman Trophy. This is tied for the fifth-best mark in the country."

I posted this in another thread:

Joey Aguilar in 3 games

9.5 Yards per attempt, 302 yards per game, 66.3 completion %, 9.5 TD%, 173.5 QB Rating

Rankings nationally: 10th in passing yards, 11th in yards per game, Tied for 5th in passing TDs, 15th in TD%, 16th in Yards per attempt

Hendon Hooker senior season

9.5 Yards per attempt, 285 yards per game, 69.6 completion %, 8.2 TD%, 175.5 QB rating

Rankings nationally: 30th in passing yards (*missed last 2 games), 15th in passing yards per game, 21st in passing TDs*, 1st in yards per attempt, Tied for 18th is Passing TDs, 8th in TD%

Obviously Hooker was more of a dynamic runner, and Hooker did that while playing a full SEC schedule. But Aguilar might be putting himself into Heisman consideration.
Not this garbage again. Please don't screw up our QB's head by heaping more stress and pressure on him over a worthless trophy. I haven't watch a single presentation since 98 and won't start now.

The days of having a QB like Manning (or Dobbs - who doesn't get the credit he should) ... that comes in and stays for 4 years is gone. The new definition of GOAT will not be what the old definition of GOAT is.

This is all pre-mature though - but let's play the what if game for a minute - if Joey were to propel the Vols into a 11-1 season, SEC championship, win a few games in the playoffs or win it all - he would become a Tennessee football legend and rightfully so and would have his place alongside Manning, Dobbs, Hooker and the other ones that have shined for the Vols.

GOAT is GOAT is GOAT. The "all time" in the phrase ensures that it endures. Definition does not change with changing conditions.

Just because today's lads CAN move schools every year if they wish, that doesn't mean they have to. It's their choice, the good ones. 100% their choice.

To be the GOAT of the Tennessee Volunteers QB room, a fella is gonna have to be here at least a few years. Not all four necessarily, but long enough to establish some records and be in the competition for others. Championships, too.

Peyton is the GOAT. I don't think Joey can catch him, though he can certainly climb high in the pantheon, as you mentioned in your final paragraph. Maybe Merklinger or MacIntyre or Faison, one of those lads.

Go VOls!

I don't see how starting a thread on Volnation is going to get inside a players head.

Joey ended this game: 15/22 for 218 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT (tipped, not his fault, but the Heisman voters will only see the "1").

Go Vols!
Ball was behind allowing it to be tipped by defender. Maybe could’ve been caught but didn’t see a good angle. Bad luck on the trajectory after the tip though.

He’s not going to be the media darling he needs to be in order to do it on his own. Team record will play into it like it or not. Beating GA would’ve put him in the conversation.
