Need better play from defensive backs. Their quarterback should never have that many passing yards on a Vol defense, but it's hard to be critical when you win by 19.
TV makes it tough. Thought they did pretty good in man, but gave up free shots in zone, primarily over the middle.

For talking football? Wow. Telling someone they need a psychiatrist when they post a statistical number is pretty low, even for volnation.
No, not for talking football--for being so negative in most every post you make. (See previous post detailing your negative posts then compare that to ALL other posters on the site).

he had some misses, but he had about 4 drops that would have pushed him closer to 275 total passing as well.

Brazzell got caught flat footed standing on the turf on a fade pattern as the ball went right over his head. Hes 6ft5in...he should have jumped a foot or 2 and caught that. He had a bad drop later too...the ball bounced off his numbers that would have been a 1st down.

Staley had like 95yards on 4 catches and that long TD catch in his 1st start in the Slot WR position. Good game. He returned a punt too...

The poise and long ball looked way better than I expected. I expected scrambling all game like when he made the td pass to star. As someone else already mentioned, the ol creating the pocket where he had time to make his reads before the deep ball opened up a lot.

Even considering he didn't have spring practice, I think he exceeded expectations. Aside from some high throws, he kept the team moving and did nothing to hurt them. Just as his App State film implied, he has more than enough arm and legs to make the plays TN needs from him.
There's good reason to be optimistic about him.

Yeah because no QB ever throws INTS or turns the ball over at all.

Oh but don’t worry!
Joey A will serve it up at least once😏 right??

He compiled 300 total yards and 3 TDs in his first start. If that’s “getting us into trouble “ then I think we can live with that.
All quarterbacks toss one away. I think he will have a 3 int game. I just thought he tossed the ball overhead too much and a couple I thought just looked dangerous to me. I also thought he looked like he could make some plays. You make it sound like I said he sucked. Either way. I look forward to the season.

I don't believe he will run out of bounds on a 4th down as the game is coming to an end. And of course he will throw some int. all good qb do; but imo he is going to be a much better qb than we have had the last two years. He was much better today and this was not a cupcake team we played.

I missed the first quarter but besides the overthrows, I was happy with his performance. It feels like we were able to come somewhat close to running the 2022 offense again for the first time.

Maybe a reset of the QB position was needed. Milton couldn't run the offense to its full potential and Nico learned from Milton and had some similar limitations.

He was confident, ran with authority, no balls near Cuse hands, a little amped up on the sideline throws but throwing darts in the middle of the field. We might have ourselves a QB.

Did he surpass your expectations today? (To me, wow!)
This is how I felt he could play. He started off rusty and settled in. Play calling etc got pretty vanilla. WRs dropped some balls. So, that didn’t help his stats. He needs to put the ball where it belongs more consistently. When he does that, he may be one of the better QBs in the conference this year. His receivers need to catch some of these difficult catches though and certainly not drop a 50 yard catch a run that hits you in the chest from 20 yards out (Brazzel). That kid is distracted. He has the tools.

He was responding to my comment. I stated that I thought he would have a high turnover game. I believe that the defense will need to save us when it happens and he made it out like I was saying the man wasn't a serviceable quarterback.

I was one of those who voted "no" and maybe my expectations were too high for someone who has played a ton of college football and was worth over 1 million dollars. I loved the deep ball TD to Staley and the TD pass to our new RB from Duke. I hated basic throws that were not even close to where they needed to be. Over and over. Most with zero pressure applied. If this was a performance against a rival or in a big game then sure. We were supposed to win this game and easy. His bad throws made Syracuse stay in the game. I wanted him as not only our transfer QB and starter. I was hoping for some refinement. Glad there were no interceptions. Our WRs deserve a "D" grade and that did not help. I am still excited for Aguillar as our starter and was actually good with the Nico trade and still am. Go Vols!

It went about how I expected, except he was a bit more inaccurate in the 1st half that I thought he would be. To be fair, I realize I was a bit higher on him than others, as I felt he would be a good fit in Huepel's scheme.

At the same time I am chalking up some of the inaccuracies to having jitters. Once he settled in he got better and better. I am excited to see him throw more inside the middle of the field than our previous QB.

What? Y’all are a tough crowd lmao… he did awesome 😎
This crowd will hate him today and love him tomorrow. Lather, rinse, repeat next week. I'm with you, though. That 73 yard pass for a touchdown was all I needed to see to climb aboard the A train.
