Aggie fans, you out there?

A&M is not really a good fit. It's in the southwest, not the southeast--a long way away. And texas is a weird, unpleasant state full of rednecks and religious zealots--a bottom-tier state in a lot of categories, but, ok, that is true of arkansas and alabama a few other deep south states as well. Conceded! Austin is the only good thing about the place---an island of intelligence and and cool in a sea of wingnuttery. Missouri is not a good fit either. They both are only in the SEC because the conference decided to grow and become a super-conference because other conferences were doing the same. I'm not a fan of megaconferences--too many schools, and that screws up scheduling.

I consider myself a very very serious A&M football fan and can't remember the last time someone got loose on a PR/KR against us. Maybe Guice last year for 30-40 yards said:
Challenge accepted!

I'm sure some of the older Ags that have been passing through this week can offer some better accounts, but below I've linked three sources. The first is a Texas Monthy long form article that gives a pretty broad overview, the second a reflection piece on the significance of the Bonfire Memorial on campus and the third is an account of Tim Kerlee, one of the twelve who died that tragic night. Warning on the Kerlee piece, thread, it is a tearjerker and has a pretty graphic image.

Wow sad reading, and that picture of Tim, what an image.

Austin is the only good thing about Texas? Lol

I say it's the worst thing about Texas.

There's an old saying "you gotta drive 15 miles outta Austin to get to Texas"

Sounds like you'd be a good fit in a liberal paradise like San Franscio.

One weakness Chavis has always had is defending a running QB. I am a HUGE Chief fan and wish we still had him (I'm very happy with Shoop but love Chief) but that is a big weakness of his. He's not alone in that situation either, even the "Great Satan" Saban struggles in that area.

He did great containing Johnny when he was at LSU.

What is the Corps? A&M's ROTC is called the Corps of Cadets. For some odd reason, very few people know that A&M is the largest military school behind the service academies. (West Point, Naval academy..etc)

I'm from Texas, and most people would say that Austin is "weird" to day the least - like hipster weird.

Most people either hate it or love it. I hate it. Only thing it has going for it is food. Other than that, Austin sucks. Texas is very similar to TN, actually, having lived in multiple locations in both states. :whistling::whistling:

And, yes, I lived in Austin for 3 years.

Where is the memorial in relation to the stadium?

It's due north east from Kyle, probably a 15 minute walk. Not ideally located but not inaccessible either. Corner of Bizzell and University. There's guest parking directly in front of the memorial, but I'm not sure if those spaces will be available on Saturday.

I'm on my mobile now, but tomorrow I'll post a map denoting the exact location for anyone that's interested.

It would be best to visit the bonfire memorial on Friday when you could park right next to it. If Saturday is the only option, I'd get there early in the morning. The ESPN Gameday crew will get started early, so that would be another Sat. morning activity to catch.

Great, thank you!

Here's a screencap of the memorial in relation to Kyle. Little bit of a walk but its a pretty scenic route as far as seeing campus goes.

As was mentioned above, if you come in Friday the memorial would be great to go see before dinner if you're looking for something to do. There's guest parking that probably won't be available Saturday.

Great thank you. We will check it out on Saturday as we won't be there on Friday.
