Aggie fans, you out there?

South Eastern Conference, not a good fit. I realize that all conferences are doing this and it's wrong. Just like Colorado being in the PAC 12. It really makes me mad and I want things going track to how they were.

Have you ever spent any time in southeast Texas?

I lived there. I lived in Knoxville. I've lived in Florida. And the Carolinas.

Aggie fits in just fine.

I'm sure some of the older Ags that have been passing through this week can offer some better accounts, but below I've linked three sources. The first is a Texas Monthy long form article that gives a pretty broad overview, the second a reflection piece on the significance of the Bonfire Memorial on campus and the third is an account of Tim Kerlee, one of the twelve who died that tragic night. Warning on the Kerlee piece, thread, it is a tearjerker and has a pretty graphic image.

The Texas A&M Bonfire Memorial, as Told by an Aggie - The Rivard Report

Tim Kerlee - 12th Man | TexAgs

Truly heartbreaking. I get the impression that T-A&M attracts the type of people described in the article. Thank you for sharing.

Carter, I would like to think that we attract some dang good ones, but I may be a little biased.

Tim Kerlee was actually a TN boy himself. I like to think that many of the institutions in the SEC share a lot of values and ties that bind.

Thanks for the kind words and I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to visit the Bonfire Memorial on campus. If I could pick out one part of campus to show to visitors that demonstrates who we are as an institution, that would be it.

Post by BESCo91A&M:
Is Reeves-Maybin available for y'all on Saturday?
Kid is helluva linebacker.
What about Cameron Sutton?

Reply by bigorange:
Both are out, as well as Kirkland.

Thanks for the info, bigorange. I wish all of them well & a speedy recovery.

Fantastic reads for a horrific accident. The memorial truly looks amazing; wish I could see it in person.

Lester, I remember seeing this in the news when it happened and thinking what a horrible tragedy. Just now, reading these accounts, has really put some perspective on that night but also some perspective on Texas A&M and what it means to be an Aggie. You guys have my utmost respect.

I'll be making the trip to College Station this weekend to see Kyle Field and watch my Vols. No way would I miss this trip. I have no desire to ever go to Gainesville or Athens or Tuscaloosa...but I started planning the trip to College Station when it was scheduled.

If I were an A&M fan I'd be pretty confident. It's only a matter of time before the second half come backs get stopped.

However, I'd also be aware it's only a matter of time before Tennessee puts together 4 quarters of football.

You can't say it any better than this.

Wow, what a tragedy. Those are truly great reads.

We seem to have quite a few odd connections, the Ags and the Vols:
Sam Houston
David Crockett
The Dickensons
James Polk
30,000 Volunteers for the Mexican-American War
General Robert R. Neyland
Branndon Stewart
and Timothy Kerlee, Jr.

This is fascinating, and I'm sure there are many others.

I'll be cheering for you guys, after this Saturday of course. Beat Bama!

Interesting take in regards to trash talking. Part of the culture at A&M, learned while being a student, is to fanatically support the Ags without unnecessarily attacking the opponent. Do we want Kyle Field to be a hostile environment? YES, but only in that we're yelling our heads off in support of our Ags.

Now, having said that, every fan base including ours will have some "outliers" that act like jerks once the alcohol starts talking for them. In my opinion, A&M's enrollment of 58K+ has made it more difficult for everyone to have the same "Aggie Spirit" I refer to above. And with our fairly new SEC exposure, many more fans than before (who didn't attend A&M) are joining in the mix, and they tend to bring their own "pro-football" style fanaticism to the game. It's all good; I welcome them all when they are supporting the maroon and white.

Howdy Vols! IF YOU'RE TRAVELING TO COLLEGE STATION!!!!

Here are some things you have to do: Go to midnight yell, get the stadium early to watch the corp of cadets march in, YOU MUST go to the Dixie Chicken, YOU MUST go the Hurricane Harrys (Honky Tonk, bring your boots)

If you want to see things through out the state, San Jacinto monument or the Alamo.

Thanks & Gig 'em

Nothing personal . In the SEC we hate everyone . We respect the hell out of our conference . Some even cheer for fellow SEC teams but when it's game week u best believe we will be here throwing every insult in simi good taste at u . But after next week we will be pulling for u to beat Bama . Until then enjoy being Mexico A&M because without us that's would u would be

I LMAO at this one as I give me family (some are TCU grads) in Texas teetotal he77 all the time concerning were it not for Tennesseans like Crockett & Houston all Texans would be known as Texicans. I will share your line liberally for years to come concerning the Aggies would be Mexico A&M were it not for brave Tennesseans saving their donkies down there!! Thanks!!

Why don't you think A&M is a good fit? I think we're an excellent fit. Strong conservative, military school with deep southern history.

I think you are a much better fit than Missouri, but I think you belong in the big 12.
