After watching Oregon...

Let's not forget the Von Reeves end around bomb to Alvin Harpeer against Florida. Yes, it is sad that I'm having to go back 20 years to remember trick plays.

The simple act of misdirection would add something exciting. Trick plays can end up failing miserably, but counters and misdirections would make things more fun.

Fulmer was the OC that called that play.

That offense is effective in the pac 10 (12) against less than average defenses. It can even be effective against sec teams sometimes. But you saw what happened almost everytime oregon got into the redzone....the shortened field of play gave auburn the advantage cause they could not power the football into the endzone. Not nearly enough room to be gimicky or to spread the defense. If you look back at other oregon games this year they score quick and on breakaway plays

not being in a situation that requires trick plays and fourth down conversions actually wins games. trick plays and fourth down conversions are last ditch efforts

I've wondered why tennessee doesnt ever do many trick plays or go for it on fourth downs much? We didnt ever do it under Fulmer, not really under Kiffin, and I dont remember any trick plays with Dooley, but a few fourth down conversions. IMO, these are what wins games.
You do realize Oregon lost, right?

We went 7 of 17 on 4th down this year. Two of those were fakes, so not really good odds. That average, however, will continue to climb as our offensive line gets better. In response to the trick plays: the best way to have a successful record on trick plays is to use them very sparingly. Our guys this year had enough problems putting the right number of guys on the field, running the right routes and getting to the bus or plane without being called back in for another play. CDD and company will, IMO, be using a few trick plays after our guys actually learn the real playbook.
