I think Paulk could be a gray shirt candidate. If I were him I would prefer this. He's not going to be ready to play next season. He could stay home and take a couple of CC classes and rehab and be ready to go in the winter semester 2015. Win/Win IMO. He's a player though I don't want to lose him.
If I were Paulk, NO WAY would I accept a GS. What happens when he does not come back 100% from the injury? Him taking a GS opens the door for him to be passed over next year when he THINKS he is to start his days at UT. A GS is a huge roll of the dice and I think the kid would be wise to not accept that option.
Agreed. I'm not buying into Paulk taking a greyshirt role. I do think he is one that we will lose.

Excellent point but does that not mean we're taking a huge risk by signing him now?
I just feel the kid was offered/accepted a scholarship to play at Tennessee. Just because he got hurt busting his as* on the field should not take that away. With Lane, Pickett, Hill, Smith, and Hurd there is a good chance a couple guys won't play anyway. Let the kid sign and rehab at UT. JMO
We can't just drop the guys already committed just bc a prettier girl has finally paid us attention. That would make us the biggest hypocrites since everyone here has railed bama for doing exactly that.
That is why you tell him up front where he is on your board and you don't take his commitment until the guys above him have went elsewhere. Therefore, I say Butch is a man of his word and doesn't push anyone out. If they are committed, we should be too.
I hope it does not play out that way. IMO, take the kid and allow him to sign with his 2014 class as he would have before the injury. Kids get hurt. If he is willing to put in the work to come back and play for the Vols, I am 100% behind him and hope he is a star in Orange. The pics of him already in the gym right after the injury tells me the kid is a warrior. Sign him up.
Oh I'd love for him to be apart of this class, absolutely. But I think if it comes to a greyshirt role, he's long gone, and he'd be making the right choice in my opinion.
I really hope we aren't speculating on VN which kids currently committed to UT we think will get told to look elsewhere. Not good.
we will take 30 - you should count 26 now as Kjackson will not be a vol
you should also count the berry's as 2 spots
so really we have 28 on board
this means we can take 2 more after the Berry's before some of the current commits will have to look elsewhere
many think first will be dews as he will get a commitable (nongreyshirt) offer from a big boy program and leave
but if we sign 5-6 nonberry's still then several more after Dews will be looking elsewhere
The numbers are really getting tight and this is something I've NEVER seen before with UT recruiting. Even Fulmer was filling out the class in late January and early February. We are at 27. I think we lose Kameel Jackson and I believe Paulk may well grey shirt because of the injury. I am not as big on the notion that Jerome Dews will grey shirt, I think the staff really wants him and he is showing why this season. That means we are at 25 and can ONLY sign 30 regardless of the 85 number. That leaves us with 5 more to take.
I know this is not a popular position to take here, but I truly feel that the Berry twins will in fact be preferred walk-ons (by their choice). They have not taken or scheduled an official visit to date that I am aware of and can therefore take on a scholarship for their sophomore season without it counting against this class. It will count against the 85 at that point. I just think that the Berry family are big enough supporters of UT that they would do this even though the twins truly have earned a scholly. We will see though. I would do this for my school and I believe Eric would as well.
My .02 for what it's worth.eace2:
EDIT: Oh yeah! I don't believe it is in CBJ's character to pull a kids offer if they have completed their part of the agreement. He seems to be very straightforward that way. Besides, this class is just packed with great players that are really excited about the direction this coach is taking the program. I think natural attrition is all we can expect at this point.eace2:
Doug Matthews stated a couple weeks ago, before we got Pearson's commitment and when we had 26 verbals at the time, that we did indeed have 26 commits, but that 4-6 that were currently on paper would not ultimately wind up signing and said that the Berry Twins, Charles Mosley and Cory Thomas were 4 that will be in this class and replacing 4 of those unnamed players.
