Spots do we have left??? I'm a follower on VolNation and rarely get to post, but from what I understand we have 27 commits??? And we are still in it for 7-8 more guys??

I've seen the thread saying 7 spots left, but a lot has changed since then...

So someone please fill me in as to what is really going on. It seems like we have only a few spots left, but we want more guys than we can actually take.

Oh and BTW, there is no way Eric Berry pays for his brothers' tuition IMO...so please don't include that.

Thanks VolNation...GO VOLS!!!

Well 19 more prospects have been stated as takes by fortenberry apparently so it's really open season if they're to be believed. "It will work itself out" will be the mantra for 3 more months. Translated that means we will drop the family talk and dump you for a higher rated prospect

A few days ago, in a conversation, bUTch said that we would sign 30 for this class. Of course, that could have changed due to Vincent Dallas' depature.

Ok so technically there's roughly 7 in my opinion. But really 5 if you count the twins as silently like I do. Having said that ill post my list on here. Not done by need or priority just a list total.

1-2) Berry's

3) Hendrix
4) Malone
5) Garrett
6) Jarran Reed.
7) Thomas DT

Wildcards- adoree, gennessy, other randoms will come up as we get better.

We need a damn sticky on how the 25 SEC limit works in relation to the 85 max roster.

3 spots left... speculative greyshirts, Bryant may not qualify, someone could easily get pushed out, and we won't get everyone we are recruiting....

So that is why 6-7 are remaining...

Man oh man. I wish it were still the Johnny Majors "Follow me to Tennessee" unlimited scholarships days. You make room for any and all future NFL talents. You just do. It's a nice problem to have. I just feel like we have been too bad for too long to be above cutting guys loose. If Butch plays his cards right and makes the hard decisions, this class can be absolutely magnificent.

So if we end up getting guys that want to come who we feel are better than the ones we have committed we are just gonna drop them?? That's gotta be tough for those guys who have been committed and loyal to us and then someone "better" comes along and we just tell them "sorry buddy".

Anyway, I know that's the business of college football. So here is my next question...if we get some of these big talent guys to come to UT, what guys that we have committed are the most likely to be dropped??? In VolNation's opinion?

The Berry brothers only count as one since they are twins. Have them wear the same number and have one play offense and the other defence. There's one spot.

That's a great idea and I am all for it.

On a serious note, I am not as confident about the Berry Bros like some of you on VN seem to be. It kinda worries me that everything is so quiet...I hope I'm wrong.

The only thing is they are not even visiting any other schools at this point.

we will take 30 - you should count 26 now as Kjackson will not be a vol

you should also count the berry's as 2 spots

so really we have 28 on board

this means we can take 2 more after the Berry's before some of the current commits will have to look elsewhere

many think first will be dews as he will get a commitable (nongreyshirt) offer from a big boy program and leave

but if we sign 5-6 nonberry's still then several more after Dews will be looking elsewhere

I really hate to do specific names to be honest

the only reason i put Dews on there is he was offered kind of assuming a grey shirt - so itd make sense if he got an offer where he didnt have to do that for him to go

also since Kjackson has taken a snap this year - just seems like there are too many ?s around what is happening there for him to be a take - very high risk when we are in on so many good prospects

so outside of those 2 i would hate to name names - and it would also depend on what position the new commit happened to be as to who would be most likely to go elsewhere

I think Paulk could be a gray shirt candidate. If I were him I would prefer this. He's not going to be ready to play next season. He could stay home and take a couple of CC classes and rehab and be ready to go in the winter semester 2015. Win/Win IMO. He's a player though I don't want to lose him.

We can't just drop the guys already committed just bc a prettier girl has finally paid us attention. That would make us the biggest hypocrites since everyone here has railed bama for doing exactly that.

That is why you tell him up front where he is on your board and you don't take his commitment until the guys above him have went elsewhere. Therefore, I say Butch is a man of his word and doesn't push anyone out. If they are committed, we should be too.

I'm wondering if the 30 number CBJ used was before the 3 current roster players left the program. I assume that it would open up additional spots within the 85 overall limit. Given that the SEC limit of new recruits (non EEs) is 25, it would appear that any recruit who is an EE could sign and not be counted against the 25 limit. I may be wrong on that. Not sure. However, if that is the case, then it is possible that we could sign as many as 33 (+3) as long as they are EEs? What I may be missing here is any "back count" limitations. Interested to hear from the more knowledgeable folks. Thanks.

You can only back count 6. So the max would be 31 (Swafford will take 1) and so we are at 30. The recent attrition will help us in 2015.

Depends on how many you signed under 25 from the previous year for purpose of totaling your backcount, not the 85. So if we signed 20.... Five under the limit... You can backcount 5

Guys on the roster who leave, like Dallas, don't help add more to a class. They only help you stay at or under the 85-man roster limit if you're pushing it.

Gray shirts wouldn't count against this class even thought they sign a letter of intent with this class. They also can't report to the team in the Fall. I don't know if those guys have to count toward the next class or not. Fuzzy recruiting tactics are fuzzy.

Doug Matthews stated a couple weeks ago, before we got Pearson's commitment and when we had 26 verbals at the time, that we did indeed have 26 commits, but that 4-6 that were currently on paper would not ultimately wind up signing and said that the Berry Twins, Charles Mosley and Cory Thomas were 4 that will be in this class and replacing 4 of those unnamed players.
