After leaving the Presser

Justin, did you feel like he talked about recruiting too much? I would think that has to have a bad effect on the players that are on the team now.
My humble opinion would be the opposite... players will want to fill in some of the gaps in offense and know that they will have guys pushing them to be better to keep their starting job and number 1 they want to win. Recruiting those new guys is the way to do that.

I think that as happy as most UT fans are to have Kiffin, he is even more happy to have UT. He seems like an inspired man who just got the opportunity of a lifetime. I'm sure being an NFL coach was a great experience but nothing on being handed the reigns of a storied college football program with an unlimited recruiting budget and the ability to run the program the way you see fit. Oakland was a job. UT is an opportunity for Kiffin to make his own legend status. You can just see how angry he is over his rep being tarnished by Al Davis. We just hired somebody who will not stop until he proves his pedigree and he's at one of the best places in the country to do it.
I agree. I think Al Davis put a chip on his shoulder & CLK doesn't sound like a guy who will rest until he proves Crazy Al wrong.

But seriously,...Kiffin will start at $2 million annually, plus bonuses, under a six-year contract? Why so damn much $$$, and why for such a damn long contract? I'd be nervous at a presser also,....that is a hell of alot of money for a hell of a long time in a hell of a hard divison. Doesn't 2 mill put him almost at the top of the SEC? (except for Saban)

Post is just plain wrong. $2M is only average for SEC. Saban, Meyer, Tubberville, Petrino, Richt, and Miles are all above this so he's the 7th highest paid in the conference.

Exactly why hamilton hired him i think. Its a bold move on hamilton's part. I like it.

This press conference has me pumped. Have any players made any comments about the hire? I heard business or someone say that Eric Berry is loving this hire. Is that just speculation or did he make some comments?

I raised two kids with ADD/ADHD and I saw signs of that. Not in a bad way, but just ready to hit the road and do what he has to do and not deal with pity stuff...

I thought he seemed really nervous at first. He was fidgeting with his hands and swaying back and forth like he was slow dancing. I do believe he settled down and finished strong, but I didn't expect him to be that nervous.

I noticed that too, then I noticed they cut away and did more of an upper body shot, so you didn't notice his hands fidgeting

I still thought he said all the right things and definetly looked confident after the first few minutes

Can't wait to hear who the rest of his staff will be

If you're not used to Kiffin Press Conferences they can be summed up by 3 statements.

1. He is not a great public speaker

2. He is BRUTALLY honest

3. He is always entertaining (mostly because of #2)

I agree. I first thought he lacked confidence. Confidence that would be expected of a head coach. However, he seemed to be very confident when answering questions from reporters.

Loved the fact that he seemed to want to get the formalities out of the way as soon as possible so he could get to work...lot of energy.

Yea, but we just sent away a coach that has been here 17 years. I am sure he was thinking These Tennessee Fans are crazy, I better win lol.

online they never cut away to anything. It was just a straight shot on Kiffin. He was just much more candid in the Q&A. Not sure what you were watching.

I watched WBIR online live, for about 10-15 minutes
then lost the feed

about the first half of that they had pretty much a full body shot
then they went to waist up

Just got done watching the press conference for the third time. Watched, and watched, and watched.

We got the right guy. He embodies the winning maxims: Recruiting, conditioning, preparation, focus, intensity, execution.

His staff is critical, but he's gonna re-write the record books at UT. This young man is special.

He won't need any breaks. He'll make them. I have a great vibe about Lane Kiffin. Hold me to it.

Go Vols.

As mentioned already, he did much better during the Q&A than the prepared speech. Yes, he should be nervous stepping into this role. Also, I wondered if Mike Hamilton had heavily influenced his prepared speech, which make any straight shooter neverous. Lane certainly seems to shoot straight.
