Why don't I feel elated after this win?
Why do I feel sorry for Fulmer and feel his pain....this would have been a devastating loss for him?
Why is watching this team play so excruciating?....it is boring, predictable and so frustrating.
Why do I feel like I'm watching the Bad News Bears?
I want so much to be happy with this win even though we almost blew it....of course, other teams have lost games after blowing a 21 point lead like LSU did when we beat them a few years ago so at least we did win the game. How can we start the game with rested players and not even be able to move the ball on the first 2 possesions....how long did it take us to make a first down? How can a quarterback on the opposing team who hasn't even been playing much come in and reel off first downs one right after another? Our only salvation is that all the other teams in the SEC have had bad games so for that I am grateful. All we can do is hope that the lights go on in the AD's head, in Fulmer's mind and in the minds of the players. Until then, we will continue to agonize.

We were just damn lucky thats about it. Carolina should have won but a win's a win and in this crazy year you just have to take it and go on.

Turnovers, red zone production luck and Lincoln got us out of this one.

how is it that game after game we allow one wr to look like Randy Moss? From Mesean Jackson, DJ Hall, and now McKinnley. We know that particular wr is their only weapon and we still allow them to run free. How is that possible?

Defensive scheme and lining up ten yards off the receiver might have something to do with it.

South Carolina killed our zone in the second half and Chavis didn't seem to mind too much. That soft spot in the middle was open almost the entire second half.

That is what kills me about our D. If you give guys 10 yards, they will take it. It drives me freakin crazy! :banghead2:

The one thing that really sticks out is we continue to play half of the game. The first half was strong and then second half things went south. I agree on the receiver coverage basically it should have been man-for-man and sticking to them like glue.

Third down coversions needs to get better. If we are a yard from getting a first down accomplish that single yard and try not to throw 10 yards down the field to end up short.

I agree, I mean we do have a stud RB (Foster). :whistling: Welcome to VolNation btw. :hi:

I wish I could enjoy this win but I got up this AM with that old dead feeling inside like when the Vols lose. In that second half when I watched SC go through our defense like a hot knife through butter posession after possesion, I just sat in silent resignation, waiting for the axe to fall. I try to stay out of discussions about strengths and weaknesses on this board. I just watch the games and read the evaluations of what happened by posters who know what they're talking about.
But in this case I'd like to break a self imposed rule and offer my observations. This defense is as inept as any I've ever seen and the secondary (with the exception of one player is totally useless.) It's one thing to have great QB's and receivers beat you but when somebody like Hall is consistently as wide open on every play as he was and then this guy for SC last night....my god! It's like we're playing with only one DB. Are they camera shy or what? Play after play for two weeks now, nobody in the tv picture but a wide open reciever catching the ball. It's might discouraging to watch.
