After being in Atlanta I understand why...

I was blind drunk by the end of the Cal game in Knoxville, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't recall causing trouble other than singing a lot of Rocky Top and giving high fives. Same in ATL on NEY, except my boisterous was lessened somewhat by the tail whipping our Vols took.

I'm not in favor of selling alcohol in the stadium Because: (a) it would be very expensive; (b) the vendors would require security to step up the enforcement against those bootlegging liquor into the stadium; and (c) sneaking in with whiskey is just too much fun.

Go Vols!

Perhaps UT & VT fans were more intermingled due to it being a bowl game. It being a night game on New Year's Eve probably made matters worse. Some people probably started drinking too early in the day too.

If you consider 10 am too early, then yes.

My favorite moment was the very loud chorus of boos rained upon Gerald Jones while he lying on the field hurt.

I have little respect for VT fans.

I was in Sec 136, right by the Tech band. Aweful! Fortunately I was sitting around our fans. On the way out, two guys were literally carrying a tech girl out from being passed out drunk. That must have been a long walk to the car. By the way, who the hell would do the hokey pokey? Did anyone think that was as dumb as I did?

I was sitting in VT section and one young fella (early 20's) was giving the Hokies all kinds of heck. It was hilarious. He was asking if this was their fight song. My 12 year-old son seemed to be enjoying the conversation too. Fairly clean conversations for most of the game. The hokie pokey was too funny.

My brother in law and I actually almost got into fight with a group of about 4 21 year old Tennessee fans that kept yelling at 2 old ladies that were Tech fans. They were completely hammered. If security hadn't have shown up and made them leave(thought we were gonna get kicked out too but pretty much the whole section defended us) there definitely would have been a fight.

There were a few obnoxious drunk Tech fans behind us but they weren't starting trouble they were just excited their team was winning.

Aside from that incident, I didn't have any problems in the Hokie section I sat in. It probably helped that I was at the end of my row and my wife was acting as a buffer.

The older gentleman sitting beside her seemed nice enough. He just never shut up.

I sat in section 140 and had a couple of Hokie fans behind me.......no problem there. There were some drunk UT fans but again no problems. Everybody seem to behave themselves.

Give the Hokies a break...First of all "What is a Hokie"? Secondly...When your band has nothing better to offer than the "Hokie Pokie" during halftime...and lastly, most of them spend 16 hrs. a day in a coal mine and marry their cousin...I would drink heavily too and hope for a heavy punch to the forehead to end it all!

On the way back to the hotel on Marta their was a fellow Tennessee fan (wasted) standing in front of my wife and I and 3 VT fans behind us standing near the door.
The wasted Tennessee fan ask the 3 hokies what their fight song is.. All 3 hokies look at him with a blank stare and all three answer " I dunno"... Someone about 5 people back yell's, "Don't you know, It's the Hokie Pokey!"..

The drunk Tennessee fan giggles and seems to stare at the floor for a few seconds and then out of nowhere.. Bursts out in song! Singing the hoke pokey as loud as he could..

About the second verse, the whole marta car bursts out in laughing.. It was a great moment for a rather crappy night..

Most of our students are from Northern Virginia.

I was with 3 of my friends. We had a group of about 7 Hokies in front of us. Good people in my back. We sat in 105 behind the VaTech end zone. The 1st quarter was a little tense. The guy in front of me decided to scream "cheaters" everytime we got a penalty called against us. I waited for VaTech to receive a penalty and when they did, I returned the favor. He turned around and laughed and high fived me...after that, everything was cool. We actually had a pretty good time poking fun at each other. They shook our hands and wished us good luck this coming year. Again, Hokies are ok in my book.

I arrived in Atlanta Wed night, at dinner (Hooters) there was about 75 VT fans and 5 UT fans. Even though the beer was flowing pretty good, the comments were pretty clean and the Hokey Pokey was sung and danced several times. It wasn't a great time, but everyone was ok with each other. In section 338 it was pretty much all UT fans, I didn't notice anyone too drunk or acting badly. I didn't like how everyone left the game during the 4th quarter. You need to support your team in the good and bad times, and the 4th qtr was a really bad time! Eventually we'll meet VT again, and have another chance. Go Vols !

Sat next to their band, but the section was 75% TN orange. Had a chick from VT harrassing me the whole 1st half, my wife was berated at the concession line, saw 2 VT kids, beat up a guy in the mezzanine for no reason. All of these people were drunk off their ass, we had our fair share of beer too, but they were total jackasses, and turned my opinion of them.

since it was new years eve, it was more than likely a little more than the norm.
you typically have the young ones that binge and don't remember or the old ones that are just jerks for decades.

went to the bama and tech kickoff classic and didn't have too much of a problem. before kickoff about got into a fight with some of them at the beer stand. about 6-7 (one in a turkey costume) pushed their way to the front of the line. about 4-5 of us had been waiting for the sales to start (still setting up the lockbox) for beer and pushed back. after that, i became a bama fan for a few hours. not much happened when you call their bluff and they realize the people they skipped would jump in.

I had a husband-wife combo of tech fans sitting by me and my father (38 and 59 years old, respectively). They were very obnoxious, but it was good natured. Their team was handing our butts to us and they were enjoying it as fans. After the game the husband came over and shook hands and told us to be careful heading out..

I don't think I would have a problem with that (it would suck though) as long as it was all in good fun.

There were two vol fans sitting right next to us. Right before kickoff the guy gets up and leaves. At the end of the first quarter I go to the bathroom and there is a guy on all fours puking in the stall. When I got back to my seat I asked other folks if they knew they couple and they did. They said he drank too much and was passed out puking. He never came back.

That would plain stupid and a waste of money for whole game/trip.

I was in section 113. It was mostly VT fans but had no issues from them. I only noticed one who was drunk. The only closest thing I got in the form of smack talk was from him when he was making his way to his seat. He was excusing himself then got to me then said "I would say excuse me but you suck, youre from tennessee". The look of fail on his face was great when I told him I was from Virginia.

I couldn't believe they did that. The guy sitting in front of me was complaining that Jones was trying to stop the clock. Unbelievable that a fan base would boo an injured player.

Tech fan = Classless A-Hole!!!:furious3:

I had no problems with Tech fans. I thought they were pretty hospitable and nice. Only a few rude comments after the game, but that is only to be expected. Don't get your panties up in a bunch.

I did notice the VT fans were a little more tipsy than us...maybe they had a better time...lol! I was in club section 217 and this VT girl was getting down shaking her junk in her boyfriend's face. Then he got pissed...then she left looking like she was going to spew. VT fans were very entertaining...they did get a little quiet when we tied the game. For the most part the VT fans with their kids and family were good folks. It was just their younger fan base that were acting like they had beat a good SEC team.
