After a week of soul searching I wish I would have went to the Tennessee Florida game back in 2004.. it's been to long

Obviously the jury is still out, but the unacceptable losses (Vandy last year and UF this year) have to stop soon.

Ask yourself this multiple choice question...

Which of these coaches would have lost those two games?

a) Dan Mullen
b) Hugh Freeze
c) Kirby Smart
d) Lane Kiffin
e) Mark Stoops
f) None of the above

The answer is probably "F". Until CBJ gets in this mix and someone answers "none of the above" without hesitation, then we will probably stay in and around where we are - less than average begging for a bowl birth. (and I pray CBJ is very successful - just not much game evidence yet)

My concern is I really hope we are not seeing a pattern of losing tight games forming . In games that have gone down to the wire, GA, Vandy, SC last year and GA and FL this year we are 1-4. If not for a miraculous North catch and severe game mismanagement by Spurrier, we are O fer.

I realize where we are with a lack of talent, but we played well enough for over 3 quarters to win all of theses games, but for whatever reason, could not come through. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you can't come through when the opportunities are there, your ceiling is an average mark richt season of doing less with more.

Go ahead and add James Franklin to that list.

zood grief. Some of you kill me...Give Butch a little time, it year two, we're already seeing huge improvements. Yes, we should've beat Florida, but Our QB isn't that good and the O-Line is young. If Worley sees the corner blitz and doesnt fumble....we win....And we have a real QB on the way...Were gonna be badass real soon! As Arron Rodgers says...R.E.L.A.X

They had the talent in the trenches last year.Enough with the excuses for this coaching staff!
Yes, they had the o-line, at least for pass protection, but no Hurd, and the QB position was very unstable. Injuries, etc. really hurt us.Along with a very slow, young defense. Now, we have a promising defense and more talent in the backfield, but our o- line couldn't stop the Polish Navy. That is the college game. It's not professional ball. We get these kids and hope that we get 2, maybe three years of starting out of them and that maybe 1 in 10 make it to Sunday. Butch is assembling talent. It may be next year or the next year when all the pieces fit like a well oiled machine, but when it does, baby watch out.:dance2:

O-line sucked eggs last year with 4 draft picks (2 of which are already starting.) There is a massive coaching element to this anemic offense thing.

The last sentence is just hope filled nonsense.

Kiffin had some embarrassing losses at USC. Stoops lost to Florida too.

Both games UT was a slight favorite, and in both games I thought the Vols played tight and the gameplan was ultra conservative. I don't mind an ultra conservative gameplan as long as the Vols find a way to win the game, and right now they aren't doing that. At this point, Butch's teams have played their best football as an underdog.

Did CBJ mishandle the hand off against Georgia? Did he throw the interception the play after Cam picked off a Florida pass?
Execution and a lack ofexecution are the biggest reasons we are where we are today. It's easy to blame coach but easy isn't always right.

But the team lost its starting QB halfway through the season and had a very young and inexperienced group of receivers.

The dumbest post I have ever read on any sports message board ever including VandyMania...Lane Kiffin wasn't fired from USC for always beating inferior competition and let's not forget UCLA in '09 either. Mark Stoops lost to Florida this year and Vandy last year. Kirby Smart isn't a head coach. Good lord.

this team is too young to define the coaching staff and their offense a failure. This offense may look totally different when they get the talent in the trenches along with a good QB. Keep recruiting at the pace you have Butch and we will see better days here on Rocky Top! Go Vols! Lets get win 3 tomorrow!

Great news! I'm glad you found it. Those things can be a ***** to find again after they're lost.

GO VOLS!

Totally agree, whether Aaron or Frankie said that, it is only year two. If Dooley got three years and his teams never showed improvement, Butch gets at least that same timeframe and hopefully earns much more.

We can be more judgmental after the season ends...I'm thinking bowl this year and if so we are headed in the right direction...GO VOLS

Wow, some people just don't have a clue. We had a whole other set of deficiencies last year, not the least of which was our defense and a serious lack of playmakers on offense. Do everyone a favor and know what you're talking about before you open your mouth, or in this case, put fingers to keyboard and post! GBO!!!
