After A Day to Mull it Over.......

It was reported that Coach Fulmer's wife and daughter became very emotional after last Saturday's loss to S.C. Do you think they knew then that the 'end was near', possibly because Phil was told before the game that a loss to S.C. 'is the final straw'?

I hope it wasn't based on one game, but rather the body of work the last ten years.

this is ridiculous. the guy had just been asked to quit doing something that he was quoted as saying "didn't feel like a job." fulmer had been a huge contributer as a both a player and a coach for 35 years. i would have gotten choked up too.

again, nobody is debating that his being choked up is weak or a problem.

Personally, I fully understand where Fulmer is coming from and departures of this nature, while necessary, are difficult. None of that has anything to do with the way the press conference was put together and was allowed to turn into an emotional love fest. That should have been saved for a later date.

when would you have done it? just curious

I thought that I would feel better about the whole situation today, but I still feel the same. I didn't think yesterday that it was the right decision for Fulmer to be forced to step down and I still don't think it was the right decision.

I think Phil handled the whole situation very badly. After reading all of the sympathy posts and threads, I know most people on here will bash me, but I think Phil created the potential for unnecessary animosity for all concerned. The players are all up in arms, recruits are probably wondering what kind of school is this, the media is eating it up, and coaching prospects are apprehensive. I think Fulmer thinks he is bigger than the program and has no perception of failure on his part in any way. He should have been a bigger man, took one for the good of the program and simply stated he was looking forward to a fruitful retirement. Instead, he hung the AD up to dry, created havoc and dissension with the players and played to the base emotions of the fans and supporters. The animosity on this board is proof positive of that fact. Good luck to him, but I have a more negative opinion of his dedication to the program than I did a few days ago.

Fire away fellow Vol fanatics, but always remember the program is bigger than any one individual and hopefully always will be.

I agree.. If I was Mike Hamilton I wouldn't have been so.... niiiice...

I said it would not go down like Black Bush Whisky. He is a bitter man.

I have a quick question ....Who was the darkhead guy with the sweatshirt on; that was upset and crying alittle that the players were hugging on the way out. BTW From my few post on volnation , I am a Bama fan ,But not the goofy obessed Bama fan.. I guess Im a college football fan. ANyway Sorry to hear about Coach Fulmer I had no ill will towards him. Matter of fact thought he was a good coach. It will not take Tenn. long before you are back. Way to much tradition in Tenn. to stay down.
