Sounds like you're doing it right. Not that you care what a stranger thinks. My 17yo daughter is dual enrollment HS/Liberty U and still works 3 days/30hrs a week at a veterinary clinic and she absolutely loves it. I want her to drop 1 day a week because she will still have way more money than what she needs...but for now she is still making all A's and still hits the gym 3 or 4 times a week too so we are tolerating the third workday per week until something slips and she starts showing negative signs in school, home, church, happiness level etc. So far its all good but I think its too much. We will see. My children are everything to me. Good job with yours bud. Both of my kids have had jobs all through HS and college. All while playing sports and maintaining a social life. They save, and spend their own money on things they want.
They know we are their backstop and I also will not hesitate or feel guilty about the help we give them.
From professional experience, the overwhelming percentage of intermediate/long-term affordability choices are due to poor personal financial decisions....
I found a way to read it. Just because something CAN appreciate doesn’t mean it DOES. You’re better than that. I’m guessing it largely depends on land ownership, maintenance, neighborhood, and a number of other variables. Is it a sound investment? Maybe, maybe not. Should it be a solution to a housing affordability crisis, excuse me, hurdle? Probably not.It really is.
It's probably white and unless you're on dark mode, it is invisible. Can highlight to read if you'd like.
I work with several mid twenty year olds that are frequently complaining about cost of living and not being able to buy a house.
All while they show up in new cars with a Starbucks every morning and DoorDash lunch daily. The craziest part to me is how many of them spent money (took out loans) on degrees and do not even work in that field.
You said it was a depreciating asset. It isn't a statement of fact because sometimes it does appreciate.I found a way to read it. Just because something CAN appreciate doesn’t mean it DOES. Are Mobile Homes a Bad Investment?
Mobile homes may seem like a practical, affordable alternative to conventional homes, but buyer beware if you’re looking for long-term value.www.ramseysolutions.com
I genuinely believe this is a result of poor parental guidance at a young age coupled with public education lacking practical curriculum.
My high school financial planning teacher was a baseball coach who, without exaggeration, played Dave Ramsey videos for all but 5 minutes of each class.
1st...your comment is spot on. 100%.
2nd...lmao
3rd....on the bright side, Dave is no joke when it comes to sound financial advice. No credit card debt you cant pay off each month, no $1000 car payments for 6years or 7. What I have heard from him on the radio was good advice.
The best math class I have taken in my life to this day was a "retard math" at Austin Peay that met the degree requirements. It actually taught us about interest and how it works (and other math that is actually usable). But hey, A squared + b squared = c squared is important!
As someone making under 30k supporting a fiance and teenager..I can tell you from experience that you can live pretty good if you mAke good choices...am I able to put back a ton of money no...do I have a new car no..but in save when I can and have are looking to purchase in the next year or so..it possible when you focus on needs and not want ..quit trying to keep up with the Kardashians and you'll be fine
So no bet? Alright then, thought so.
You keep championing the tired old boot strap line, that way you are outwardly only responsible for yourself and never have to consider others.
Well, I genuinely value gaining perspective on any issue. I know I’m not infallible, I know everyone has different experience and there is value in learning about and from those experiences. So even though I can get impassioned and even downright condescending, just know I come here for conversation and perspective, not out of malice. You might be right, I might be right, likely a combination of the two… but I digress.Heck no. Im leaving for a cruise tomorrow am.
You can wallow in your angst alone.
I harbor no animosity against you. In the end, our opinions have no impact on the lives of others.Well, I genuinely value gaining perspective on any issue. Enjoy the cruise.
