Aeration and seeding time.

Yes. 6-7 week intervals is best.

Good deal. My only regret is I waited so long and I had the best looking fescue yard in the neighborhood. My yard isnt shaded much and the summer heat and my neighbors weeds made me work on it continously and kept my wallet empty. Now I just sit back and watch it grow and cut it when it needs it.

You can go to 1.5 pounds per, if you want.

Is your lawn irrigated?

I hear ya on the neighbors.

No its not irrigated. Wished I had. Contemplated putting one in myself, but that is when I had fescue. I rigged an in ground sprinkler head on a pvc pipe tripod I built. It works great! Looks a little hillbilly but I put it out at dark and set my timer to go off at 5am when it needs it. Really havent needed to water much. Zoysia shows you when it needs a drink much easier than other grasses I have seen.

I just recently moved and my new lawn is in bad shape. So what would be the best method of going to Zoysia from a fescue/bermuda mixed lawn with several bare spots that need seeding? How does it do it shade (not good I assume)? And what's the best time of year to plant or seed?

I may need to hit up Mr. Google, but I'm intrigued.

over the last two years, I've gone through seeding, overseeding with seed and straw, and watering the hell out of it..I even had a new sprinkler system put into the part of yard, I wanted to get established, I finally put sod down last fall and that's the only way to go...

So bite the bullet, and spray the Bermuda with round up, wait a week or two and bring in landscapers to lay the sod, unless the yard is small enough that you could throw the sod and lay it after it's delivered..but I would only lay it myself if the yard was small enough

It's back breaking work

good luck

You put a lot of hard work in your yard. Made me tired seeing the pics

If my weed lawn bothers you maintain it your ****ing self.

True exchange between JTrain and his neighbor. Got better things to worry about.

you will want to break the soil and put some seed and straw over the bare spots,no hay,in the shady spots put some periwinkle there,it is a good ground cover and likes the shade,of course that is each to there own there, the Zoysia likes the sun

Lol. I watched a guy mow his neighbors yard because he wouldnt. The homeowner just sat and watched him. I laughed until I cried. Glad he wasn't my neighbor though. I like my lawn to be nice.

I have had my customers pay me to mow their neighbors lawn before. It's funny.

I always get permission though. Don't need to be sued

I'd kill it, before I mowed it

Can you throw the sod on top of the dead lawn you just created or do you have to dig a layer of yard up and lay sod in place of the layer that used to be there?

Have no knowledge on this.

a friend gave me some in a couple of buckets, that is how i got it started here,it was a lot of work, but it was free lol

No. I get it. That works if you are going to over seed. We over seed fescue in the fall and Bermuda/ zoysia blends in the spring.

I have a 30" Timemaster because I got it dealer price, and I cut every other Thursday. I don't care if there's corn or poison ivy in the yard, if nothing else itll be green and keep the a hole quiet

After spraying and killing the grass, I raked with a heavy garden rack and watered before I had the sod put down..

The old grass wasn't completely gone, but the sod held

Thanks. Got to do something with my yard.

Coming up on that time if I am going to do it this year.

This is a option but I wouldn't recommend it

if i had a pallet of Zoysia,i would use one of the plugging tools and there is no telling how many plugs you would get,i really don't know if that is better than the seed or not

i do love the Periwinkle for good ground cover, once you get it established all you need to do is run a weed eater over it once or twice a year,i had a friend that covered up some steep ass banks that couldn't be mowed with it and just ran the mower over the edges of it

Either way will work. Cost is the biggest issue. How many sq feet is the lawn?

I'm not sure, honestly. I'll have to measure.

I've put down sod before and it's much heavier than I imagined. I'm not cut out for sodding an entire lawn myself so I would have to hire it done or use seed.
