If you're going to the Isle of Palms, my advice is to grip the steering wheel very tightly when you cross the Cooper River Bridge. You'll understand when you get there.

It depends on where you plan to be. Isle of Palms (IOP) is a nice area. Easy to get into & out of. Where are you planning on visiting?

That SCARY OLD BRIDGE is gone. They replaced it with 8 lanes of concrete. Impressive!

Just before they tore down the old 2 lane bridge, I got caught at the top of that thing in a thunderstorm and you could feel the bridge swaying. It's amazing it didn't just collapse.

They rate bridges on a numeric scale. I believe 1 to 100. The old bridge got a 4 on its last inspection! YIKES!!!

I have to cover a football game at the Citadel...but making a min-vacation out of it.

Are you looking for a get away with the fam? Or looking to see the sites of Chas? Lots of history & stuff downtown. There are lots of B&B type places downtown & quite a few inns. If you are looking to get more of a relaxing weekend then IOP is your best bet. Beach, more residential

It will just be the wife and I....Sounds pretty good. I think we would rather stay off the beaten path, but close enough to drive and see the sites...IOP might be the place then, unless you have other suggestions.

depends on the weather...if it is going to be nice, then a beach location is great(i recommend Kiawah but it is a haul from the Citadel)...there are some great bed & breakfasts' and small hotels in downtown, plus the places to eat and drink are in walking distance...some great pubs in downtown

Holy S*** that bridge was insane!!! The 8 lane bridge is a HUGE upgrade.

As for Isle of Palms... I stayed there a few years back and loved it.

I just looked and the weather is going to be partially crappy and in the 50's....40% chance of precip...might have to start looking downtown.

There are MANY locally-owned restaurants in Chas. No need to eat the same chain food you can eat in Chattanooga.

Stay downtown so you can walk around.....second the recommendation on California Dreaming. The market is great to walk through but the woven stuff is pricey. My daughter collects pen and ink drawings of various houses. Usually there are stories that go along with the subject of the drawing. I love the iron work (second only to Savannah). Sullivan's Island has a good beach particularily at low tide where some rcks are exposed near the lighthouse. Chucktown is a great place to play.

I second the downtown move. California Dreaming no, that is a a great restaurant and all, but it is your typical American Restaurant, and the real appeal as to why it is recommended is because of it's location and the views from the restaurant. If you want a Charleston Restaurant you really need to just stick downtown. Rock Bottom is a cool place to hang out and grab a drink. There are several other nice restaurants on King Street or Market.
