Advanced Metrics Nonsense

MJG can't score from more than 4ft from the basket. Stats are great, but there's a lot more to evaluating a player. Games aren't played on paper.

Right. There is more to the game than scoring. He is an excellent rebounder, defender, and he makes few mistakes in terms of fouls and turnovers. Lillard really only did one thing well this year, but people love points.

I'm thinking about a guy on the Raptors that puts up good numbers but probably wouldn't start on a decent. Demar Derozen for example. Seems as if comparing him to a guy on a good team would be hard to compare.

It doesn't matter if you start or not when you look at productivity per minute. You can make very accurate comparisons between guys who play 15 MPG and guys who play 30 MPG.

If you're trying to find an example of a player overrated by stats, MKG isn't the one I'd single out.

We are failing at communication here. Lol I'll try again. I'm saying comparing a guy that puts up stats on a bad team compared to a guy putting up less stats on a good team. It would be hard stat wise to compare the 2 IMO based on stats.

I mentioned Derozan because he puts up number on a crap squad, because there are numbers to be had. If he was on say OKC he wouldn't even start. So how can you compare his stats to say Joe Johnson who has other players and it be accurate at who's better?

I'm saying some dudes pad stats by being on bad teams, so comparing them to a guy on a team with multiple options would be off.

I hope that makes sense, I may be a lil drunk. :)
