Advanced Metrics Nonsense

Here are the responses to the model I posted that predicted the Knicks and Nuggets would end up with the 2 seeds.

At the end of the day, their best player is Carmelo Anthony who has never won anything and probably never will in the NBA. Amare is out and when he gets back it will be the same song different verse between he and Melo.

If they make the number two spot in the East, then the East is God awful and the Heat can go ahead and pencil in 65 wins and an appearance in the Finals.

FTR, I said 2 seed, not win the west.

If the Knicks are the two seed and the nuggets win the west, I'll never antagonize, ridicule, laugh at, post a sarcastic response to, or annoy hines at all in any fashion. As a matter of fact, I'll only open the grizzlies thread in the Nba forum.

It isn't happening.

Again, T-Wolves suffered a ton of injuries.

T-Wolves and Knicks stand out to me. We will be bumping this thread throughout the season.

huffhines... think the knicks actually get the two seed? Not questioning the whole graphic, that just stood out to me.

The Miami heat won 65 games and are penciled in to the finals and the nuggets don't have a 2 seed. Nice bump.

You're impossible. The East wasn't weak, and the Nuggets were one game back from the #2 seed. Be a man and own what you said.

The east wasn't weak? ......... ?

The nuggets didn't win the west. I don't know what you want me to own.

Bucks- 6 games under, in
Jazz- 4 games over, out

Teams in the east with 55+ wins- 1
Teams in the west with 55+ wins- 5

Okay huff

Just own that you thought my prediction was ridiculous, and that I was almost exactly right. I don't expect you to disappear from the NBA forum...just be a man about being wrong.

You come back with, "the Heat won 65 (when that has nothing to do with my prediction), and the Nuggets didn't get a 2 seed (when they are one game off)." instead of saying..."Wow, you were really close. A lot closer than any of us gave you credit for."

Are you serious? The Knicks would be the 6 seed in the West.

The West is really strong in the top 8...doesn't make the East weak. There were 3 teams above .600. We saw what a weak East was like in the mid 2000s. From 2002 to 2007 the East only had three .600 teams once.

The point is whether or not the East is "God awful",and it's not.

And in exactly one of those seasons did a team with less than 40 wins make the playoffs.

I like how you picked .600, though; you're lucky that Pacers-Celtics game got canceled or that argument goes right out the window.

It's almost impossible to be "God-awful" by recent Eastern Conference standards. But it was most certainly weak.

Right. So why did everyone go ape **** about me picking the Knicks?

One of the revised projected standings things you posted had the Knicks number one. But idk when the grand discussion began.

You are correct, revised projections after the fact had NY by a fraction of a game.

I was doubtful of those projections myself, but in hindsight, with the Knicks dumping Brewer, rarely using Camby, and dealing with injuries to Chandler and Amare, maybe they would've been a lot closer to the 1 seed in a world where the Heat don't add Birdman.

Probably because they didn't expect Danny Granger and Rajon Rondo to miss a combined 121 games.

Oh I know you didn't bring up Granger, LOL. It makes no difference when he misses over the long lenth of his career. Basically exact same win % with and without him.

Rondo is great, but again, Knicks dealt with a lot of injuries, too. Amare was absolutely dominating for the 29 games that he played. Chandler missed 16 games. Their 2 best perimeter defenders Brewer and Schump missed half the season.

Are you seriously suggesting that the Knicks "maybe would have" won 60 games if only they had Ronnie Brewer?

Maybe. I don't know where you get "60" games from specifically He was their best perimeter defender. They got killed by teams like the Warriors because Kidd is the only other G who plays decent defense. When the Knicks had their awesome run to start the season Brewer was getting minutes. Woodson benched him for more points from JR Smith, and the Knicks came off their streak and eventually traded Brewer.

Game 22 was the last time Brewer played 25 minutes, and the Knicks were freaking 17-5.

Beside all that I mentioned 3 other factors for the Knicks and you singled out just the one guy, but I'm saying injuries, and not playing Camby made a difference, too.
