Advanced Metrics Nonsense

If I were a HS phenom, I think I'd go to Europe...might even try to do it at age 17.

So, to recap: [Brandon] Jennings didn’t have to worry about falling afoul of ridiculous NCAA rules, made a nice chunk of money, got professional coaching and training, played poorly, and still got picked with the #10 pick one year after he graduated from high school. In the NBA, he’s been a below average player, but some team will end up giving him a huge contract this summer. Would Jennings have been any better off if he had gone to college?

Should Andrew Wiggins skip the NCAA?

I would absolutely go to Europe if I were a 1 and done sure top 5 guy.

I get why some people don't but my word why wouldn't you

I think about going somewhere like Spain, and living on your own finances, and having to navigate a completely new country/culture...that's more life experience than 9 months in college.

Absolutely. You'd live somewhere awesome. I'll take Europe over Lexington. Getting paid over not.

I think you improve your game as much, probably more, playing the Euro game for a little while. Don't have to worry about some tricky, stupid myck kabongo eligibility thing. Just better in every way. Surprised the trend hasn't started.

Totally agree. If basketball is going to be your profession anyway, might as well make a cool million and live in Rome for a year. I would kill for that opportunity but your typical bachelor's degree does not open that particular door.

A couple reasons it hasn't:

1) There's a stigma after the Brandon Jennings decision that European coaches don't like young, American players. I don't know if that's true or not.

2) Jennings struggled over there. No one likes to struggle, despite his overall success from it.

3) Going over to a new country with a full time at 18 is still damn daunting.

Yeah it is. And it isn't even remotely in the minds of most high school kids. Not surprising that it hasn't happened more, I guess, and it's easy for me to say now "yeah that'd be awesome"... because it would be... idk if I would have thought that as much then.

I decided to give Melo one last chance to compete. I removed all of Melo’s below average games from this season, which, for the record, is 24. If I calculate the Wins Produced per 48 minutes (WP48) of Melo’s remaining games, Melo’s WP48 sits at 0.275 (almost three times an average player). This is indeed star level. However, even after removing his worst games of the season, it’s still below LeBron’s 0.329 WP48 and Durant’s 0.308 WP48.

Is Melo an MVP candidate?

150..lol. Don't ever change huff

I seriously wouldn't even want him on my team. He could have Lebron and Durant for teammates, and Melo would take the most shots. He has no IQ. His skill set is ridiculous but it's a detriment because he can get away with frequently making horrible decisions.

I get what you're saying. He definitely sucked in the Olympics.

It's indisputable at this point. He's in year ten and hasn't really improved since he came into the league. He's practically the same player.

Lackadaisical defense and poor shot selection. That's it.

If he actually tries on defense and made a concerted effort to take 15 good shots instead of 22 questionable shots, he'd be a stud.

At this point there's no hope for him.

Exactly. If he played D, and played more of a catch-and-shoot offensive style he'd be one of the best players in the league.

As one of the better offensive weapons in the league, you aren't afforded many catch and shoot opportunities. People actually pay attention to you.

I disagree. If you shoot 15 times a game, rather than 22, you're probably going to get better looks. Reggie Miller and Ray Allen in their primes are perfect examples of the style I'm talking about.

No, Cooley is really good, but he wasn't my #1...he was high on the list when we discussed this a bit ago.
