Advanced Metrics Nonsense

And why do people wanna judge Lebron's career on how many championships he wins?

Since Michael said "5 > 1 any way you look at it"...11 > 6 any way I look at it, so why isn't Bill Russell considered the greatest of all time?

The rub.

George Karl is damn idiot.

He has three solid wing defenders in Brewer, Chandler, and Iggy, yet puts Galinari on Durant in the closing seconds.

Just incredibly stupid. Why is Galinari even out there on defense?

I wish there was. It would show who is really hitting the boards and who is getting garbage rebounds.

I don't see it having value in that regard, but in another way. For instance maybe you could show that Dwight Howard gets so much attention that his teammates collectively get an unusual number of uncontested rebounds, but for the most part, on an individual basis I would say "garbage rebounds" pretty much average out (especially for guys getting lots of rebounds). Everybody gets garbage boards and there's probably not much variance on an individual-by-individual basis. Could be wrong, but that'd be my guess.

I am a hater by nature when it comes to LA basketball... but that one goes down as the best in-game dunk collaboration in the history of ever. It is the alpha and the omega. The bar is set high enough for me to comfortably say we may never see a lob finish of that nature in our collective lifetimes.

Podcasts from Sloan conference...interesting and random stuff. The players that sprint the most are centers. The player who sprints the most is Kevin Love. Rockets drive to the basket the most. Etc.

Everybody knows JR Smith is getting the ball down 1 point. They don't run a play, they just get him in iso. He sits on the ball for 5 seconds, than posts up from 21' and does a turnaround J with Westbrook right in his face. Who thinks this is smart basketball? The fans don't boo. The announcers don't voice any dissent. How can the consensus be that this is the way to close out a game?

Mike Woodson needs to tell Smith he's an average player. That's the Knicks problem, they have two guys who play as individuals.

He and Melo are two of the worst players in the NBA.

Then they pay Amare max money to come off the bench. New York is a a complete joke.

So you're saying Hamed Haddadi is better than both?

I don't think they would be 2nd or 3rd in the east if their best player was the worst in the league. 37-22 what a joke of a team!

Melo isn't their best player. He scores a lot, but since he's just above average efficiency, it doesn't really give them much of an advantage. Top scorer =/= best player.

They are good because they lead the league with fewest turnovers. They collectively score pretty efficiently. They can afford to play with 4 wings because Chandler is so dominant in the post on D (they lead the league in defensive rebound %). Chandler is their best player. Take him out, and they are a completely different team. Take Melo out and they play pretty well. Lost by 1 point to OKC after playing just 24 hours earlier. Their record is pretty good without Melo.

The constant narrative in basketball (NBA in particular) that end-of-game situations should come down to one player isolating and taking a shot is beyond perplexing to me. The media love to talk about it, which makes sense because buzzer beaters are great stories, and for some reason many coaches seem to agree with them.

Woodson is not a good coach. All things considered, though, Melo at the 4 and Amare off the bench isn't a bad idea especially when Miami is the team you're chasing.
