Administrative nightmare. Coaching debacle.

Do you really believe a potential coach looks at the fan base and decides on whether or not to take the job because the fans have expectations of him?

Actually, according to some sports agents, the answer is a resounding yes.

And, for right or wrong, Tennessee's fan base is considered to be on the extreme end where entitled meets uneducated.

At a minimum it means that UT will pay more for the same coach as most other schools. At a maximum it means that there is an echelon of coaches that don't want to gamble a premature end to their career and thus won't consider UT at all.

Add that to the systemic issues that UT faces, and it's a more difficult position to sell than we give it credit for.

if B.J. does not play dormady at least 2 quarters in the next game, he is crazy!!!!!!!!! Josh Dobbs is the reason we lost 2 out of 3 games.

Dave Hart has announced his resignation as we all know. He isn't leaving his post anytime soon though. Tennessee hasn't even whispered that they are close to naming a replacement AD.

Here's the problem:

Butch is Dave Hart's guy. He hired him. Tennessee won't bring in a new AD until the spring at the very earliest. Like everything else, UT will either drag their feet in the mud or completely botch the AD situation all together. Hart isn't going to fire Butch. When the new AD gets here it will be too late to make a move. So the new AD won't fire Butch either. That's a problem too, because Butch won't be "his guy". It puts the new AD in a really bad spot and he will likely keep Butch for another season or 2 to see how it plays out.

So, to me, UT not going ahead and hiring a new AD weeks ago is what is really the travesty in all this. It's about to get really, really messy in Knoxville.

Butch doesn't deserve to be fired yet. Have a clue, brother.

You are totally ignoring how many frogs Alabama kissed before finding their Prince. A program has to have a vision to have success. This program is trying to just get by. That is the reason that good coaches do not want to come here. The expectations of the administration fail the expectations of the fan base for a reason and the agents know this.

We've been irrelevant longer than Bama ever was.

This is just ridiculous. A dont care who and when you hire a new AD, Jones is not going anywhere for at least 2 years. Get used to that reality and stop this childish speculative jibberish.

oh it will only get worse, the jibberish that is

He has improved the team, but I think he has already reached his ceiling. I wanted Petrino ( warts and all) when we hired Botch. Petrino is a proven winner ( and a horrible person). We live in an imperfect world.

you mean Petrino, the guy that couldn't win with talent at Arkansas? that Guy?

I'm so sick of the Fahr Butch crowd. If we fire him where do we go? There will literally be zero interest in this program even from mediocre coaches. Why exactly do you think it is we don't have a proven commodity right now? Because big name coaches agent looking to come here. I wish they were but they are not beating our doors down like they are Michigan, Ohio St, LSU and Texas. Better get used to it people.

All of those schools already have their big name coaches. A lot of it has to do with timing and respect for a program--meaning--what is the best option at the time? But think about what Washington is doing, Wisconsin, Nebraska etc. We can get a coach like that too, and maybe Butch will do it. Just not overnight. Jury is still out and I have his back. If Butch wins out, he improved our season by 1 game yet again. But you don't fire the guy for that. That is absurd.

Reality is that was a frustrating loss. They all are. It happens. No other team played the Cocks with that QB who played an exceptional game. What they have done before is less relevant than what they do from here on. Regardless, it happens.

But fact is we still have a shot at SEC East. Go Razorbacks! At the end of the year we still can be SEC East champs and go 10-4 (bowl win and SEC Champ loss). We could even be SEC champs if he can rally our kids and get more healing time and build depth during Tennessee Tech game so we ramp up towards the end of the season. If that happens and we get Sutton back and Kamara and somehow squeak into the SEC championship, we could end up 11-3. Is it a long shot? YES! But so were any expectations this year beyond the East.

But I will say this, if our fans want to come unraveled when we still have a lot of possibilities to hope for including at the bottom a 10-3 season with no SEC East title, then they deserve a team that comes unraveled. Period. I wouldn't take half of you to battle with me because you would turn and run. Let's see what happens.

As for Butch, you keep him for the progress he shows and you honor your contract with him for the progress he has made and the next big coach will respect your program and build off that progress IF the current coach is not able to get the team there. I always thought next year or the year after would be out year anyways.

In FAIRNESS, Jones needs to start limiting the boneheaded calls he makes. To not return the punt yesterday was inexcusable. We would have had the extra yardage needed to kick that field goal given that we made the same plays after fielding the punt. The clock ticks away as the ball bounces anyways. No excuse for that. At least I haven't heard one so that's a good thing.

We need a new OC--somebody with chops. And we need much better offensive line and QB play. Our offense is not good enough.

Hard to say, that same OC and team has gone toe to toe with some pretty big teams. Consistency and health are essential. There are many plays I saw that were fine. The receiver either dropped the ball, the pass was thrown in the wrong spot, the timing was off or the open receiver was never seen. That is on the team, not the coaches. I am not sure what Dormady can do, or Jones but Jared G has the arm... if he has the mind we should be really good in a couple of years. If Dormady is better, then that is a good problem.

That's the thing. Many coaches were contacted that weren't even interested in the interview. Exactly who was contacted is pretty well under wraps.

Muschamp and who else exactly? See that "under wraps" part is important because it doesn't tell you either how many, who, or their position (success, satisfaction, or liability) - for example, a Saban isn't likely to leave AL for anything else.

You can believe what you want, but positions like TN - SEC, an established program (hard times or not), and a rabid fan base are desirable for a coach with talent and ambition. It's not an AL - just try not to screw things up, it's not like Vandy - no hope, but TN is certainly no less a coaching position than GA or a big 10 location like WI. Get rid of the inferiority complex.

What we desperately need and have needed since Doug Dickey retired is a competent AD - one who has some ties to the football community, knows who to talk to, and isn't tied by some search committee's apron strings.

I take it you've talked to sports agents, then?

And yes, I'm ignoring what Alabama did mostly because that is entirely independent from a conversation about Tennessee's perception among some of those in the legal/sports world who are in a position to know these things.

This is what needs to happen.

This is what makes an administration act, when the cash cow stops flowing changes are made. This helped shove Fulmer out the door. People will say fans don't have a voice, but this is the only voice they have. I'm not suggesting it but BBB got rid of Conzo.
