Adidas deal to be finalized today per Chris Low

Check out what SCjr got from Nike, at least they are getting some Aja Wilson sneakers

The exact numbers on Tennessee football’s new deal with adidas is not currently clear. However, multiple reports, including from ESPN’s Chris Low, indicate that adidas will pay Tennessee close to $20 million a year. In the release announcing the new deal, adidas stated that a part of its payment would go directly to supporting Tennessee athletes in the NIL space.

It’s a remarkable contrast in the size of deals, speaking to both how badly adidas wanted to poach Tennessee and how minuscule South Carolina’s new agreement with Nike is.

Let’s say that adidas is paying Tennessee $19 million a year. It would take 38 years for Nike’s base payment of South Carolina to equal the Vols’ annual payout.

What a dumb decision. Adidas' equipment is wack. There's a reason they are paying more than Nike. They know they're an inferior product. Choosing a subpar product for money is not wise. Dumb dumb decision by Tennessee.
All due respect I disagree. I have worn both. Nike isn't wide enough even thought they claim they have wider with shoes. You have to special order them. Adidas does and you can get them off the rack so to speak.
I played d1 basketball rod a nike school, said school isn't wearing them anymore.
Honestly that is irrelevant However I've found nike equipment to be just as lacking that you claim adidas is We'll agree to disagree here.
Having said this Another argument that likes to be thrown out is that the kids only want nike. Sorry sir that argument is 30 plus years old and has completely lost the appeal. Take a long hard look at the younger players in ANY sport who are wearing Adidas.
So I'll reiterate we'll agree to disagree.

Normally, id agree with you—but Adidas is willing to make us their flagship school and give a ton of money, complete freedom to customize uniforms, etc. Nike currently gives more money to Kentucky than they do Tennessee. I don’t think that we are a high priority for them and in this day and age it’s about ca$h.

We'll see. I'm very skeptical of that promise. When we signed with Nike 10 years ago I seem to remember reading similar things from them. That they wanted to make us the "Oregon" of the SEC. Psst! Whatever!

That was a message board creation, Tennessee was never interested in the Oregon of the SEC treatment. UT wanted traditional uniform designs and that’s what they received.

I'm still skeptical. What happens when other schools who are with Adidas are up for contract renewal? Is Adidas going to be promising similar things to A&M, Washington, Miami, etc?

Yeah 100% correct, whoever thinks adidas is going to have a negative effect on popularity with recruits couldn’t be more wrong. Adidas has been killing Nike in pop culture and fashion the past 5 years. Even NB and asics have. You’ll see more exclusive adidas collab sneakers resell for 3-10x the retail price way more frequently than Nike nowadays. If Adidas can get one of those popular brands to work on a release for us and the other elite adidas schools the recruits would go crazy and want to come here even more.

Does it matter? The money is still the money for the next 10 yea

I understand that, my response was, it doesn’t matter if adidas re-signs Texas A&M or Miami or whoever to similar deal is what Tennessee has. As long as Tennessee is getting its deal, which includes the NIL component, I’m not going to be paying attention to what they do with other schools.
