Adidas deal to be finalized today per Chris Low

Until Nike does the same thing at a competing school and we're screwed.

Being the top dog at a inferior brand still puts you behind the top dogs at the premiere brand. Nike is better than Adidas. So no matter what we'll always be second class.
We get it. You dislike Adidas. Again, as Deer Park confirmed, Nike made no attempt after the exclusive negotiating period ended to counter the Adidas offer.

They didn't want our school so we took the only deal on the table after March, the one from Adidas.

What do you want UT to do? Nike walked away.

I find it hard to believe this is going to be an issue with recruiting. NIL money talks. I'm glad Adidas is back. I thought Nike hats sucked. I hope Adidas brings back some retro 90's style Tennessee hats.

Bull…. We will not be designing and Approving inferior product. When they put some on the street get back to us. The stuff they see, touch, and wear on VISITS, the only prospects that REALLY count, will be UT approved. They are not going to allow cookie cutter crap with the logo to hit the shelf. Not in UT’s or Adidas’s best interest with us identified as a KEY, top dog institution for them. They surely will want to reach out to specific other institutions to gain market share in this new model.

Yes money talks at the end of the day. But the team with the worse gear would have to overpay. That's the point. That when money is equal something like wearing Nike over Adidas will put you over the top. Do you really want us to pay a tax for wearing Adidas instead of Nike? Because that's what will happen. We'll have to overpay cause most athletes dont want to wear Adidas gear over Nike.
Forget it, man. The adidas people aren’t changing their minds for any argument or truth. Put their Euro trash racing stripes on every piece of clothing you own. Some people think that **** looks good!

If you’re wearing hats made by shoe companies, get it together, man! They barely make decent shoes..

Except Nike isn’t going to do the same thing at a competing school. They have made it very clear that they are not going to be active in the NIL space.

They are focusing their marketing and branding efforts in two areas: leveraging their professional contracts with the NFL, NBA, WNBA and Major League baseball and working to reclaim the parts of the running market that they’ve lost to newcomers line onCloud and HOKA in that space. Neither of those things involve signing college athletes to long-term deals or any deals at all.

Is it possible that changes? Sure it is. But they just re-upped Georgia, Alabama, Florida, LSU and Oklahoma for contracts that were only a modest increase over what they were getting before. They’re not making the groundbreaking investments in college that they have for years, particularly as long as schools don’t demand large increases, like Tennessee did. Remember, the dollar figures for their contracts with Texas, Michigan and Ohio State don’t actually reflect an annual average value. Each of those three contracts featured a significant signing bonus at the beginning that went to a specific project on campus. The average annual value of those three contracts is several million dollars less because of that signing bonus.

I’m as Nike as they come, pretty much everything I own outside of the suits I wear to work is Nike. But you have to be willfully ignorant to think that this was a bad deal for Tennessee. I’m not going to buy nearly as much Tennessee sideline gear as I did when they were with Nike. But there are plenty of upscale brands making Tennessee apparel that I can buy instead. It would’ve been malpractice for Danny White to pass on an extra $10 million a year, plus an $2-3 million investment in NIL opportunities, just to stay with a brand that I would prefer to wear.

💯 agree. Hate that we decided to go this route BUT I do understand from the money side of things. Like you will buy other brand apparel that is TN but let’s just pray Adidas doesn’t screw it up like last time they had us with the uniforms and such.

We have creative control this time. If the colors or designs suck, it's on Knoxville.

Hopefully the uniforms will be better with the new setup. Nike unis undeniably looked better than the last time we were with Adidas.

I'm staunchly in the Adidas camp for fan apparel and shoes though. Nike stuff falls apart and never fits right. I recently gave them another shot aftet 15 years and it only reinforced my dislike for them.

Let’s hope this is way it goes. Know it’s been said but believing seeing and seeing is believing so I’m in wait and see mode here. I think truly Adidas is a cheap brand BUT again I get it with the money they are offering
I prefer Nike gear and certainly Nike shoes. I just prefer that UT get treated respectfully with our gear contract.

I don't have stats but I think Vols fans buy a lot of gear per fan. Rabid bunch, we are, though other schools have larger fan bases.

Nike doesn't want to play in the college NIL realm and we need a gear partner who will help with NIL. They made a business decision. We made a business decision.

I don’t even wear Nike anymore. I mostly wear Columbia shirts and Champion hoodies. However, I find Adidas to be mostly disgusting.

My issue is that this contract is not the end all be all that it has been made out to be. We’re still going to have to wish and hope for a top 10 recruiting class. The difference in NIL spending won’t increase disproportionately to any other school’s current spending. The people for whom this deal is great are those who have to raise the money. They can keep up the same spending with less effort. But don’t expect our NIL to eclipse Texas’s or Georgia’s just because we swapped shoes.

My primary desire is for great on field and court uniforms, don’t really get all caught up in my off the rack stuff having the same logo. Wore a really great ORANGE shirt today by Columbia. Somebody will fill any void to get your money.

Once again, DW is in charge, everybody needs to wait on the NEW, UT IN CHARGE stuff before any more whining. Tomorrow ain’t yesterday, and certainly not 12 years ago.

If UT really has full creative control and is designing the uniforms, it's all on Knoxville to make us look good. If we look like crap in 2027, we need to roll some heads before 2028.

It's a sign of the changes in the game that NIL participation by our partners is what we expect. Danny White "gets it" better than I do and he's put UT Athletics in a good place.

I see... so you're basically just talking out of your ass 😂🤣😂

My understanding from educated sources on the daily UT football shows (Eric Cain, J etc.)
is that the deal gets us around $15 million more a year. That can go a long way in getting more elite players, which in turn should result in a better team. IF it does that, I don't care if they wear Walmart specials. 🤔🤣🤣🤣
