Adidas deal to be finalized today per Chris Low

Because more people want to wear Nike than Adidas. In particular athletes. There's a reason almost no major college programs are aligned with Adidas. While all the major programs are with Nike. The difference in brand prestige is obvious and doesn't need to be explained.
So your opinion is only based on popularity, not functionality/quality. Got it.

Sure people buy merch every year but do they actively discard the previous official brand just to replace with the current?

Like “I have 5 Nike TN shirts in rotation. Gotta go out and get 5 new Adidas ones now”?

I have a nice pair of orange Nikes I only wear for TN games. They are in great shape. I won’t be replacing them just because the AD moved to Adidas.
The Power T rolls on forever like the awesome Tennessee River.

All the younger fans will buy Adidas. And a lot of us oldsters will too in appreciation. Wait til you see the new stuff!

And you can keep wearing your older Vols stuff. Silly to suggest or think otherwise.

Tennessee: Best Athletics Department in America. Best fans in America.

Here's what Nike was deliberately ignoring -- because they were pushing (and funding) our rivals.

It happens WAY more than you realize. There's an Ole Miss player who when being recruited had narrowed his choices down to Ole Miss, Miss St, and Georgia. He chose Ole Miss. Do you want to know why?

1. Miss St was an Adidas school and he didnt want to wear Adidas.

2. Georgia wore black socks and he hated wearing black socks!

You would be amazed at the things players will factor in when trying to pick a school.
We're you a recruited athlete out of high school?

Amazing all these takes about recruits by so many people who have no first hand experience as a player or coach.

True. In this case they align perfectly. Nike is the most prestigious and has the best quality. Especially in comparison to Adidas which is generally trash.
Do you have first hand experience competing in a sport with both brands?

Adidas is anything but trash. My experience is that Adidas holds up much better. It's higher quality than Nike.

Adidas used to make the Superstar model with UT orange stripes. I had a couple of pairs of them through my late teens and early 20s
FWIW: Only that small, Summitt Blue insert would be new to that shoe. Every other assembly piece and color is already being manufactured and used in various current issues of that model shoe.

I’m a hopeless optimist at times, but if Adidas is willing to make Tennessee their flagship program, and the fans really get behind it, it could become a pretty cool F U that our fanbase owns. I feel like standing out has been our MO anyways. Why not jump on the opportunity to do that. The uniforms themselves are not going to look much different at all, regardless of what people say or think.

I would be choosing a school based on their brand, just like I used to stay away from restaurants that
served Pepsi (I don’t drink soft drinks anymore).

Nike didn’t become the top selling brand by luck. This is what I remember about college football branding over the past 20 years:

"Would be" is the operative phrase here. You really don't know because you actually haven't been in a position to have a choice, right? You're basing your position on it from a fan's perspective. A high level, accomplished athlete has a much different perspective because of their first hand experience USING the gear in competition. Yeah, a lot of players love Nike, no doubt. Being the flagship brand for Adidas is a freaking great move. We're nationally relevant in not just the big 3, but all sports. Having UT will likely enhance the Adidas name among the ranks. A segment boost for Adidas will expand our prominence as well. DW is thinking on an entirely different level than you

I mentioned this before. Cooper Flagg signed a deal with New Balance while in college and still went to Duke. Kansas is adidas and doesn't have any issue recruiting. 10 years ago I was more worried but in today's age, I'm not. And Adidas is apparently making us their #1 program for NIL.
In tight recruiting battles where money is a driver, conditional NIL offers based on what logo is on the uni they wear gameday could be a difference maker. Article on here discussing Keys features that. Don’t know if we win, but put us in the short straws.

Hoping our deal is an indicator of a concerted move by them to greatly improve their position in the market places with appropriate changes in their operating methodologies. Maybe targeting high end schools more than total market. Do it right and margins should be better and perception grows too. Less but more profitable relationships due to number of eyes seeing the logo on gamedays. Percentage of top 50 schools/markets is the key. Just like flipping 5 stars in recruiting gets noticed.

Looking forward (not) to negative drivel if the three stripes show up on the field or stadium.

Whatever, you’re wrong but I am not going to argue. This was a great move and will prove to be. Nike wasn’t giving us any say in designs and wasn’t going to pay more money. So you would have stayed with Nike at 5.5 million a year and turned down 20? This move will prove to help us greatly. Great job Danny White and UT! Some folks will find fault on anything just to find fault. GBO
I would not have stayed with Nike. I haven’t seen anything that says we would have been stuck at 5.5 a year going forward though. All I’ve seen is that Nike wasn’t willing to match Adidas’s offer. That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have given more.

Anyway, my frustration is that I haven’t heard of any options besides Adidas or Nike. Why were we only presented with “Tyrant 1” and “Tyrant 2”? I’m sick of this “lesser of two evils” cycle we’re stuck in. I wish this was just about clothing logos, but it’s not because this is the choice we’re given where ever we turn.

I just hope Adidas uses either white or orange for their brand logo on our uniforms and sportswear. I think the black Adidas logo pops in the wrong way on VOL apparel.

I want to see Tennessee treated like an elite program by our supplier. Numbers-wise this contract does it.

The evaluation of the deal will not be complete until we know our athletes are given elite-level support with equipment and clothing based on the latest technological advances guaranteeing their comfort and protection in difficult environments.

If Adidas supports Tennessee athletes as they have supported the All Blacks in New Zealand for 25 years running, then we will have no issue at all with this deal.

What's this guy's name and where's the quote that says that's the reason he went to Ole Miss?

I'm just posting to toss kudos for your screen name. Well played!

100% good with the change. Nike is just okay... they were giving us second rate treatment money-wise and as far as design quality we got support like we're a lower tier SEC team. I actually like adidas. Ultraboost running shoes are the most comfortable shoes I've ever put on my feet. Adidas golf polos are high quality, and typically what I wear to work
