Adidas deal to be finalized today per Chris Low

The "all else being equal" part seems to be losing some of you.

Let's say a recruit really likes 2 schools and is having trouble choosing between them. Both offer similar NIL deals, both have great tradition, he likes both coaching staffs, etc. However one is a Nike school and one is an Adidas school! Thats where little things like apparel branding can really make a difference and Nike IS the preferred brand by most young athletes. Not all. But most! In scenarios like the one I illustrated above, the law of averages tells us the recruit is going to pick the Nike school most of the time!
Ehhh I just don’t see it. Not saying you’re wrong. I visited many schools when considering college ball some years ago. Ultimately, I chose UT where playing was not an option at my caliber. When considering those other schools, all things were pretty equal. Some considerations…. Distance, etc. But never once did I weigh apparel brands. Honestly couldn’t tell you what any of those schools were wearing at the time. But like I said, I’m not an 18 year one these days.

I've probably missed it, but do we know what the numbers of this deal are vs what we currently have with Nike?
Nike was paying $5.5M a year and treating us like a run-of-the-mill program, denying us deals that top-10 teams receive. Adidas is (per Chris Lowe) paying around $20M and will make us their highest-level priority.

They will get the orange right this time, and I'm certain that Danny White will make sure of that. We will have design input and alternate jersey options.

Anyone who doesn't accept this as a no-brainer is a moron.

MAH GAWD, if a recuit passes on us because we don't wear Nike then forget them fools! Nike never did a damn thing for UT.
I heard a story of a recruit deciding on two schools and chose one specifically because they had a Chick Fil A on campus. They're 18 year old kids! You never know what their deciding factor might be.

Reading a couple of stories about Nikes negotiation with UT it pretty much became a slam dunk for AD White to go with Adidas. It was almost borderline disrespect coming down to the end. One thing I did not know was that UT was contractually obligated to allow Nike to match Adidas' offer and they pretty much arrogantly refused to come close. I can't wear Nike shoe products and can Adidas so I'm happy.

to me that sounds like we need not care. if somebody is gonna choose a school that flippantly then they aren't actually focussed on being a good football player. we need to stay above that crap and just offer more $$$ than the next guy.

I kind of hope we bring back the big numbers with the black outline.

I seem to recall Adidas doing the 1st smokey grey with white helmets. Then they did a second smokey grey which was shelved and sent to some high school club in Israel??? That was really weird

The black uniforms in 2009 as well. Hope those never see the light of day again (unless we get black helmets). To be fair, Nike's 1st black uni's with the white helmets were kind of trash. The 2nd iteration w/ black helmets wasn't bad.

I believe Adidas had an alternate in 2006 (?) when Ainge was QB. Those were legitimately bad.

The money is great - hopefully it can be used for NIL - but I seriously hope there is some better creative power behind the alternates this time around.

The swoosh didn’t do a dang thing for Tennessee’s legacy or brand identity. The power T and checkerboards do that. Now that we’re at it, bring back the proper sized T in the side of the helmet. Not this miniature version we’ve had for the past decade or so.
Too bad that the T size is based on the style of helmet that's safer for the players, not Nike or Adidas.

You do realize the deal doesn't start until July 2026, right?
All I know is I see 2 corny Brothas and some Green Shoes when you search “Tennessee Volunteers”…if TODAY was deemed the “Announcement Day” of this EXCITING, SIGNATURE, MARQUEE Sponsorship of a Historic College Sports program…??!!

The adidas Site DESERVED a little bit of ACTUAL Marketing on the day…dontchyano…!

Once again, UT is still under contract to Nike.

It's probably a legal issue for Adidas to start representing them as a client currently. Use some common sense.

The odds of everything being equal all the way to coming down to that are as slim as the odds of tiebreakers coming down to the random draw to determine who goes to the SECCG.

What a dumb decision. Adidas' equipment is wack. There's a reason they are paying more than Nike. They know they're an inferior product. Choosing a subpar product for money is not wise. Dumb dumb decision by Tennessee.
This is a stupid af take, did you forget that Miami is an Adidas school and had the best qb in the country. Your dumbass logic would rather have less money for NIL and have debatably better uniforms? News flash, the kids today don't give a damn about who makes their uniforms, if they did nobody would go to an Under Armour school like Notre Dame or Auburn. Kids only care about the bag and how much money they can make rather than who makes the uniforms
