It's actually important. A significant amount of the fanbase buys Tennessee stuff from their brand apparel. Not everyone can go to Alumni Hall and buy 2 t-shirts for $30. People want to buy UT's brand stuff. And while not always the case, Adidas had some poor design and quality at the end of the contract that has resonated with people.

If there are enough fans willing and able to pay it, there’s no reason to get rid of it.

Pricing tickets below the intersection of supply and demand accomplishes nothing but leaving money on the table. (Also it just incentivizes more scalping.)

I would look at some recent Nike offers to understand where they would’ve offered if they weren’t immediately conceding to Adidas. Unlikely they would’ve kept us at 6 million.

Switching to an inferior brand over a couple million a year is questionable. Maybe it would’ve been like 5 million more a year though.

Facts:

The Nike black uniforms for Tennessee looked stellar. Adidas better not eff that up.

The Nike Smokey Gray uniforms for Tennessee looked really good too. Adidas better not eff that up.

The rest, eh. Nike fan gear always feels low quality at a high price, so eh.

Athens is just as close to 4 of those states. Charlotte, South Carolina (although doesn’t touch TN), Alabama, and Mississippi are all just as close or closer to Athens than Knoxville. Those are the talent rich states. Arkansas, Missouri, and Kentucky have very little talent. Virginia has talent, but it depends on if it’s in the Tidewater region.

UGA definitely has a recruiting advantage based on geography.

the 5.5 is an all in number for UT with Nike. So I'm assuming your $20M is as well.

The all-in deal for Louisville is $16M so not to be a party pooper but thats not nearly as blockbuster as this was made out to be.

FWIW, when we signed the Pauldo twins in women's basketball, they already had their own branded media presence, and a signed personal deal with Puma.

I don't know the details about how that was worked out, but they were highly ranked, could've gone most anywhere, but they signed to come here without hesitation, so... it's all doable.

$4 million more than their previous biggest brand is a big deal

Also Louisville is an AD on the rise. Pat Kelsey has them back on the road to relevance after their worst two years of all time. Their baseball team went to Omaha this year.

I'm all for whatever brings in more money to the program. I would hope that DW got Adidas to come with some possible uniform concepts to show what they'd bring to the table. And I would hope that the issues that were problems before were addressed.

For football and baseball? No.

Basketball? Maybe. Although it seems with NIL that the apparel brand for basketball has significantly waned. Cooper Flagg went to a Nike school but was appearing in New Balance commercials.

No disrespect but I live in the I-65 corridor in Kentucky. Louisville resonates in Jefferson County and even then half the city is UK blue. Sure they have some success in sports sporadically but in the grand scheme of college sports they are a nobody and def not anywhere comparable to UT. This will be apparent when the ACC gets blown up and they are relegated to the Big 12 or with ACC leftovers.

Just don’t F*** it up. Just put your stupid 3 stripes on the current existing uniform and don’t try to do some dumbass alternate uniforms that you did before that wound up on an Israeli intramural squad. If you want to do something cool, do a throwback. I won’t make any requests for basketball bc the only thing adidas does to basketball shoes and uniforms is ruin them.

The Adidas uniforms looked horrendous toward the end, last time we had them. Money talks though. Hopefully they look better this time.
