Adidas Contract with Vols

personally I like the adidas sponsorship we have.

Adidas makes quality athletic gear, not just quality street wear like Nike. Adidas also has a rich 80 year history of making quality stuff.

Also, there are TONS of major schools rocking Nike: Florida, UGA, Bama, USCali, Ohio State, etc

We are one of the biggest schools that Adidas has, so we get preferential treatment in specialty team gear. Nike would have us pretty dang low on their priority list if we signed with them.

As for the Under Armor, suggestion... please tell me you are kidding. Click clack? Seriously? Under Armor is the Wal-Mart of sportswear. It's cheap.

I'm good with Adidas. I hope we re-sign them.

Oh..and lastly: As for the kids who don't want to play here because we aren't sponsored by nike...

These are the kind of self serving punks that do not deserve to play for us. Tennessee should play as a team, not as a back up to a kid who wants his own pair of Nike sneakers.

I couldnt agree more..who wants to be like everyone else? Ive always loved adidas and hope we keep stay with them.

I actually think Under Armour's jerseys are very nice actually...look at Maryland...their Jersey's are very nice....nothing K-Mart about them...if anything our addidas jersey's look like K-Mart brand. I would like to see what under armour could do with Tennessee's Jerseys, they might actually put some life into them...not saying that i dont like our jersey's but i wouldn't mind seeing trim on them
I resemble that remark. Those are fighting words.... :aggressive:

haha sorry about that...i'm just saying that because they've been the same for forever...i'm all for tradition...but i'm also for change, for example Kiffin.....i think out with the old and in with the new.

I have no major problem with Adidas. I prefer Nike more. Nike is also an American company, gotta like that.:eek:k:

tennessee athletics make enough to design and create their own uniforms. then they could sale the clothing and bring in all the money instead of splitting it with another company

Anyone care to guess just how much Adidas pays the university every year to have ALL our teams and coaches in Adidas?

If we go with Nike or Underarmor they open the doors for combines and events that bring in HUGE names. Look at basketball. We lost a top recruit due to the fact he wants a Nike contract and we dont work with nike. Addidas does not have the name that the other two do.

My wife (Michigan) gets so much better stuff with Nike than what Adidas offers us for Tennessee. However, if you ever look at the ND Irish catalogue then you know Adidas can offer so much more than they do for Tennessee. Looking at their choices with Adidas makes me hate them more! We get shafted by Adidas.

The items offered are not solely the decision of Adidas.

Then your wife must not be at Michigan anymore, because they dumped Nike for adidas before last season.

adidas offers things that Nike does not. The biggest, most important thing is that adidas has a full-time employee that works on-campus and only for your school. They handle all of the ordering with the coaches, they are there to handle the problems that come up from time to time. They can make emergency orders. They're on-call and in-town 24/7.

Nike offers you a rep that you share with a couple of other schools and is based in a central location. That's worth a ton right there.

adidas also considers Tennessee to be a top-tier school in their world of collegiate schools. We receive everything that Notre Dame, Michigan, UCLA, and Nebraska receive. They make us a priority, Nike indicated in the last bidding process in 2004 that they would not. Nike offered a "B-level" contract, where the money was around the same amount as adidas, but the amount of product was far less, meaning we'd have to spend a chunk of that money on additional product.

Another area where adidas is superior is in uniform design. When a school signs with Nike, they give up control of the design of their uniforms. Nike has elected to keep some schools traditional, and they've gone the other way with others. Football designs have school input, but for the other sports, you pretty much get whatever template Nike is using that year. With adidas, the school and coach get to preview the designs a year in advance and make changes.

For those of you that say the adidas uniforms look "cheap" or "K-Mart," I hate to break it to you, but the adidas uniforms are made by Ripon, the same company that manufactures NFL on-field jerseys for Reebok. What we wear on field on Saturdays are the same materials and made in the same factory as what is worn on Sunday in the pros. Uniforms don't get any better than Ripon, anyone that knows anything about football and basketball jerseys will tell you that. They've manufactured the majority of NFL on-field jerseys since they were known as Sand-Knit in the 60's. They're good enough that when Reebok signed their NFL deal in 2002, the stipulation was that they had to get their on-field unis from Ripon.

Seems to me that people wanting Nike are the people who currently buy Nike shoes and outerwear and that is their preference for fashion. I happen to like Addidas and the 3 stripes over the Nike swoosh you see with every team in the SEC. I also think the quality of the Addidas brand is superior to Nike or the UA brands.

If we were to change vendors I would vote that Sports Belle made our unis over Nike or UA.

Nope! She left 8 years ago thankfully... but I checked out their website of offerings at mgoblue.com and I wish we had a selection this large to choose from.

I like adidas. I'm happy with it. If the university changes, so be it. I won't lose sleep, but if it were up to me...I'd try to renew with adidas.

Adidas gear just isn't for me. Some of you guys may like it but the Nike gear just is it for me.

I agree with this. I don't know where all the Adidas hate comes from. Adidas is quality.

The only thing I would disagree with eloist about is Under Armor. I can't speak for their jerseys, but the athletic wear that they sell to the public is pretty solid.

I don't really care what they wear personally but the last poster was right about kids actually choosing schools due to being sponsored by Nike. Not to mention, look at what Nike is doing for Oregon. Their facilities are ridiculous. They also use a bunch of different jerseys which a lot of kids like. I guess it's cool that they do that but I wouldn't want Tennessee do to that because of their tradition. I like the classic look. Some of the newer jerseys they have worn are kind of ugly. The all orange is hard to look at. I think it was smart for Oregon to do it because they didn't really have many traditions until now. I think the combination of jerseys has helped give them recognition and now it is their tradition. Yeah, kind of off topic there. I am pretty sure Nike played a role in them wearing all of those combinations though.

FYI, Nike is in Oregon's backyard. They should just change their name to the Nike Ducks. We would never get the same kind of perks they give Oregon

Simply put...adidas is good gear but we will sign with nike simply because of Lane...he wants nike..period. I'm pretty sure he even asked if he could use nike footballs at practice because he likes them better from his time at USC. A lot of the players complain about the clunkiness of the adidas cleats as well. Maybe if we have a good year this year than Nike will offer a much better contract and better product

Isn't Nike responsible for most of the awful uniform designs we've seen in the past 10-15 years? They seem to be the ones that come up with the idiotic jersey side stripe that "connect" to the pants and all the clutter designs and junk. And yes their Oregon "designs" alone should have them banished from doing uniforms.

they are getting a little bit better...but the "Wings" on the shoulders instead of the "metal plate" design is laughable

just curious, where has CLK ever said he wants Nike? I've never read that and bashing your current sponsor doesn't sound like a very smart thing to do

It just blows my mind honestly. It never even occurred to me that so much stock was put into what freaking name brand your gear is! The concept of losing recruits because of the name on your equipment never entered my mind before this thread!
