Adidas Contract with Vols

I don't really care what they wear personally but the last poster was right about kids actually choosing schools due to being sponsored by Nike. Not to mention, look at what Nike is doing for Oregon. Their facilities are ridiculous. They also use a bunch of different jerseys which a lot of kids like. I guess it's cool that they do that but I wouldn't want Tennessee do to that because of their tradition. I like the classic look. Some of the newer jerseys they have worn are kind of ugly. The all orange is hard to look at. I think it was smart for Oregon to do it because they didn't really have many traditions until now. I think the combination of jerseys has helped give them recognition and now it is their tradition. Yeah, kind of off topic there. I am pretty sure Nike played a role in them wearing all of those combinations though.

That's not Nike. That's Nike founder, and Oregon alum, Phil Knight donating tons of his own cash to his alma mater.

I'm fine with Addidas, would be ok with a swith to Nike. Reebok is kinda bootleg, and under armour is flat out aweful and embarrassing. I don't want a damn UA on any of my vols stuff!!!

If we go with Nike or Underarmor they open the doors for combines and events that bring in HUGE names. Look at basketball. We lost a top recruit due to the fact he wants a Nike contract and we dont work with nike. Addidas does not have the name that the other two do.

that's how i feel

Believe the switch from Nike to Adidas occured in 1997.

You are correct sir. 96-97 school year was the last season we had Nike (and my freshman year too BTW). I remember buying a Nike UT warm-up for next to nothing @ the book store, and wearing it to the UK-UT B-ball game. I looked enough like an assistant, I walked right on the floor and shagged balls with Ron Mercer and company during warm-ups. I can still hear those darn Ky fans chanting Blue-White from the upperdeck on TB arena.

I like the NIKE Orange myself. It looks like the true TENNESSEE ORANGE. Addias looks a little darker to me.

Besides Tennessee, Adidas also sponsors UCLA, Nebraska, Michigan, Kansas, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisville, Mississippi St., Notre Dame, Texas A&M and NC State.

That might not be the greatest list of NCAA teams but Adidas is obviously a big part of college athletics. I just think it's silly to say Tennessee is at a disadvantage because they don't use Nike or someone else.

What would Nike or Under Armour do to the jerseys that would make them that much better? As far as recruiting, I think the staff has proved that Adidas is not hurting them at all.

I dont think though that it is right for Nike to tell a blue chip recruit that if they go to an Adidas college that they will never get an endorsement from Nike if they make it to the next level. If this is gonna be the case the NCAA should find different sponsors for the camps.

I heard somewhere, sometime that the head coaches from Adidas deals get real good money from them. I am sure in 2010 when the new contract comes back up it can get even better for this new staff in here.

The only grip I got which is very minor, is I love the white shoes. Black ones just dont do it for me personally. But that is just uniform talk.

Does anyone know what incentive package Pearl and Kiffin will get from Adidas??

personally I like the adidas sponsorship we have.

Adidas makes quality athletic gear, not just quality street wear like Nike. Adidas also has a rich 80 year history of making quality stuff.

Also, there are TONS of major schools rocking Nike: Florida, UGA, Bama, USCali, Ohio State, etc

We are one of the biggest schools that Adidas has, so we get preferential treatment in specialty team gear. Nike would have us pretty dang low on their priority list if we signed with them.

As for the Under Armor, suggestion... please tell me you are kidding. Click clack? Seriously? Under Armor is the Wal-Mart of sportswear. It's cheap.

I'm good with Adidas. I hope we re-sign them.

Oh..and lastly: As for the kids who don't want to play here because we aren't sponsored by nike...

These are the kind of self serving punks that do not deserve to play for us. Tennessee should play as a team, not as a back up to a kid who wants his own pair of Nike sneakers.

Gotta disagree on that one. I'll admit that their uniforms aren't very good looking though.

To be honest I say if a recruit chooses one school over another based on UNIFORM SPONSORSHIP then I say don't let the door hit your ass on the way out! I don't want douche bags like that playing for my school!

im good with adidas..why change?

I agree. . .why change. Adidas does a great job and makes quality stuff. There was an article, I think in the Football Time in Tennessee issue last year, where they hilited the guy in charge of UT for Adidas. His full time job is UT. . .and the relationship Adidas has with the Vols. For years UT and almost everybody else used Russell Athletic, especially in the South. Now Russell, although a fantastic manufacturer of sport clothing, has relatively few athletic accounts. I think they still do have the Crimson Tide though as their manufacturing facilites are in Alabama.

Whatever the Vols wear. . .they look awesome!! :superman:
