Additional Comments From Pruitt About Players....

Here are some quotes from JP’s post game presser. SIAP.....

“To confront them,” Pruitt said of his plan for dealing with the players he felt came up short today.

“There’s nothing any better than peer pressure. It’s easy to stand out there with your chest stuck out and pretend that you’re somebody that you’re not. That’s easy to do, but the film doesn’t lie. When the ball is turned over, and a guy turns it down - we all know what turning it down is; you go hit somebody then you squat your feet, you duck your head, you don’t run through them - that’s turning it down.

“Guys that do that… the film doesn’t lie. Guys that don’t compete and don’t hustle… the film doesn’t lie. We’ll see that.

“Eventually around here, when we have things the way we want it, I won’t have to police them anymore. They’ll police themselves because they’ll be so invested in the program. They’ve paid the price; they’re not going to let any of their teammates, roommates, or whoever let them down. They’ll confront them. But until then, I’ll be the one that does all the confronting.”

That role is one that this head coach looks comfortable in.

I have no problem with those quotes, shows a good mindset. Going after fans for not showing up exposed him as the first time coordinator HC that he is though

Pruitt has a chance to be a fine coach, time will tell.

But at some point, he’s gotta stop sounding like Clem the auto mechanic trying to explain why your tires “ain’t no good when they don’t got no tread on them.”

Good grief, I get the hard-nosed, southern-fried country coach schtick, but eventually you also have to sound like you could hold your own in front of a room full of CEO’s or big time boosters, right?

Or how about in the living room of inner-city recruits? Not sure how well the Cletus Goober persona plays in that environment.

Again, time will tell.

It does. From someone close to the situation, these players are getting hit a little harder than even normal with the culture shock. Some have embraced being challenged every day, others have not.

Time is up for the ones not buying in. Get in or get out!

None of that really matters - what matters is WINNING. If Pruitt can set the standard high, weed out the weak, recruit well and coach them up, offseason and gameday, it wont matter if he sounds like Gomer Pyle. That will translate into 6/6 or better this year and maybe 9 wins next year and if he can do that, nothing else matters.

Yeah, CPF had a hard time pulling recruits because of the way he talked.

Not sure what the reason was, but he didn’t exactly close strong as I recall.

Maybe it had nothing to do with sounding like an uneducated hillbilly, or maybe it did.

Maybe, just maybe that's just CJP. Maybe it's not a shtick.

I think people respond to authenticity. Particularly young people. How many players have said they appreciated the coaches being honest with tbem and straight up.

I respect a man that doesn't change who is for anything. Or anybody.

The idea a guy with an accent is uneducated makes you sound uncultured AND uneducated.

I don't care for his personality at this point. Winning big and soon would change that; right now he reminds me of the LSU coach with no head-coaching bona fides.

what does "inner city" mean? LOL I think a highly touted recruit would play for a bull frog if it meant good coaching and exposure to get them to the NFL making good money.

It does not appear that we need to worry about Pruitt settling for mediocrity, with skating players holding sway in the program.

Maybe you prefer a trumpet playing, smoke-blowing, cliche spouting, used car salesman who allows “bad habits, bad attitudes, and bad effort,” as someone else said.

I knew it wouldn’t be long before Pruitt was criticized for his southern dialect. I don’t think it’s any kind of “schtick” as you said in your original post, I think it’s who he is.

I don’t give a damn how he talks as long as he gets the program turned around. Time will tell. I like his no-nonsense, says what he means and means what he says approach.

I like his personality - no-nonsense, no smoke blowing or cliche spouting. He is 100% focused on getting the program turned around and is not someone who is going to tell people what they want to hear. I personally find it refreshing.

What are you talking about? In his prime, Fulmer was the best closer in the country!

Yep. Need to get after the players, bust their asses until they get it, or gtfo, but leave the fans alone, they've been through so much. Can't let him get after us. Bless our hearts.

They said he's had one day off since his arrival at Tennessee. He sounded tired. I hope he can get some rest, maybe go fishing, get refreshed and then get on with the work of re-assembling this team. I looked briefly at Alabama's spring game. There were flashes of greatness already. Those guys get it. I believe Jeremy can bring it to Tennessee, too.
