Adams thinks Fulmer could slip by as AD

These are the kind of irrelevant stories that get written in the spring after most sports at UT are over for the year. :snoring:

Championship coach, good recruiter but it is time to move on. We know that he truly loves the university and its athletic department, but he seems to be the default choice for many.

LOL

Yet for some reason, no program of any significance with a head coach opening has considered him for the job. That should tell you something about CPF right there. Too many in this fanbase can't see what more objective observers can see.

He just hasn't found the school with the proper commitment to winning. :eek:lol:

Please. We definitely want a program to just "get by". That's what Fulmer did with the football team for about 6 years "get by" until the AD finally grew some and canned him--long overdue. He cited Vandy as not having an AD, maybe they should get one then they wouldn't be the SEC's doormat. CPF is probably paying Adams to keep his name alive in the media so he isn't forgotten.

I suspect Fulmer will be the AD someday. The only thing that concerns me about him becoming AD is what will happen if DD leaves or has to be fired at some point. I can see Fulmer pulling a Chris Ault and rehiring himself. We'd have to write it in his contract that he can't serve as football coach while being AD.

As far as his hiring coaches goes, could Fulmer be any worse than Hamilton has been? Hamilton's hired two coaches who have us in deep NCAA trouble and another who took a winning program and eviscerated it. Even if Dooley works out, that's 1-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Reading through all the posts and finally came across someone thinking exactly what I was about to post. Not one university want CPF to have any say over their football program or athletics program. They all see what some people on here can't seem to see - the guy just isn't a top notch coach, let alone qualified to run an entire athletics dept.

Below is a job description I found for an AD position. Like Hamilton or not, you tell me who is better qualified to hold that position at UT.....

Athletic Director Job Description:

Oversee all aspects of the athletic program, including, but not limited to hiring coaches, scheduling, recruiting, budget preparation, promotion, and facility management, provide guidance and direction for the program.

Candidate must prepare budgets and allocate spending on items such as coach’s salaries, team travel, equipment purchases, and facility upkeep. Must work with coaches between sports to determine scheduling of games and practices; ie., how to allocate time for a field, court, or weight room. The athletic director also must work with conferences and leagues on scheduling and other issues, like post-season play, disciplinary issues, etc.

Candidate must also work with other school administrators to assure student athletes are academically eligible for a given sport as well as work with a compliance officer to make sure a program is acting within conference and NCAA, or other association, rules.

Other skills necessary: planning and organizing skills, knowledge of legal liability, public relations, oral and written communication skills, and skills in staffing and hiring both coaches and support positions.

Please please enlighten me how CPF would meet the qualifications for this position!?!? what in his "vast" coaching experience and his "orange" blood supersedes the skill set needed to oversee all mens sports and do the job at the level required of a top national program.

Go look at the national association of AD's website - see who wins AD of the year and who the top guys are and see how many have "championship" coaching backgrounds....look on that list for Hamilton's replacement, no to the scrap heap

I suspect an MBA would also be in the job description.

Has anyone already commented that Fulmer ain't "slipping" by anything. He might squeeze in or knock someone out trying but he's not built for slipping.

If all it requires is bleeding orange then I nominate jerry from bulls gap.

I know Jerry very well. He is a great guy. Went to a Lady Vols game with him back when I was his pastor. He definitely bleeds orange.

Coach Fulmer has NO interest, NONE, in being the athletic director at Tennessee or anywhere. He is happy with what he is doing.

/Thread.

Over / Under for time before the next football thread that sends everyone into a hysterical panic.... 112 minutes.

Thank you so much for this. What kills me is the writer even acknowledges it's based on fan speculation.
