Adams on Point Again

That is the point he is trying to make, but the idea that we would roll the dice on a coach with no playcalling experience because we are afraid we might lose a recruit is shaky at best. I don't see why people are so fearful that recruiting is going to go in the toilet as if Trooper Taylor is the only guy who can recruit. Winning football games is a better recruiter than Trooper Taylor ever dreamed of being.

For us, maybe. But we'll never see what Taylor might have been able to do here. If he proves his value at OkSU, then maybe he'll come back, but I have always though that the current wins of a team don't exactly weigh heavily... it's the proposed course and future of the program that is a larger factor.

and you're willing to put that on what he might have been able to do?

for the future of the program, he made the right decision in not giving him that job JUST to retain him.

we have a far greater opportunity in front of us now.

No, that was not a statement advocating TT being OC. I was simply making that statement in relation to losing his proposed recruitment prowess, as some have stated.

I was mostly saying that current wins or even a slump in a program usually won't weigh too heavily on recruits, if the school has enough of a background.
See: ND, Miami, Bama and Florida State's current proposed recruitment classes.

looking at the results those schools have put up lately, i'd say they have fallen off in recruiting, none of those teams have the players they are accustomed to having.

they will be back though, so in that light, i see what you're saying. the difference between 3 of those 4 and us is in state talent to draw from.

You're right in the in-state/out-of-state, but that shouldn't be a reason. Almost all stars currently and almost all stars in the past have been out of state. Wins do go a good distance, but promises go further, IMO.

And those schools (save maybe bama) haven't really ever fallen off of the wagon as far as recruiting goes.

i would trade the in state talent to draw from in TN for what's in LA, FL, TX, CA, OH, etc...in a heartbeat. it's no secret that one of the biggest challenges we have is our recruiting. we've been very fortunate over the years to become one of those "national" recruiting teams, but by and large, you ask anyone, and they'd like to have a solid in state talent base to draw from.

True, and I've never argued that point. My point is this:

In order for us to succeed, we need EVERY coach to be enthusiastic and capable of recruiting. That is a dead-on requirement.

For all the Trooper fans out there, wouldn't it be interesting if he went to Okie St., they gave him some experience running an offense including game planning and after they gave him a 4 or 5 year internship he came back to Tennessee? :whistling:
