koolaid. I'm for everyone getting off his back, and I'm for him, but I'm not looking for anything like a "breakout game". I'm hoping for a full-out running game.

if you were Crompton? I have asked myself that question and I do wonder what I would do now....if I found myself in a situation doing what I want to do but not being great at it and feeling like I'm not going to get any better. Knowing there is no one else who can take my place and do much better but also knowing that I have become the punching boy....would I keep coming out there and subjecting myself to abuse and jabs from everyone, comments that really hurt but knowing they are justified and I can't seem to do anything about my situation. I try to be confident but it just doesn't translate in my performance...I would like to be successful and yet it seems just out of my grasp. Could I take being referred to as "all we've got"? That is a very difficult position to be in and it was not what I envisioned for myself...I don't like the feelings and looks that I get and so what do I do? I'm not sure what I would do...if I would just walk away and say the heck with it or would I see it thru to the end? One option might allow me to salvage some further destruction of my self image and the other option would require some courage on my part....what would I do? We've all heard the admonition to 'keep getting up, no matter how many times you get knocked down' after all the important thing is that you got back up....but, I wonder what WOULD I do, WHAT would YOU do? We will be very fortunate in life if we never find ourselves in that position because it is NOT an enviable place to be...there must be a reason Jon Crompton has been put in this place at this time....maybe it's more about us than him....maybe someone is watching to see how we react more than how Jon reacts.

I said to someone today, the improvement in Crompton's game IMO is signifigant, he rarely fumbles handoffs or trips..(each of which he did once a game last year..now just like every other game):rolleyes:

orangeslice, the crompton is in a lose, lose situation...

he loves the Vols and he has stuck it out through a lot... he's not mentally quick enough to play sec ball, but he is mentally tough..

I completely agree, as much as Crompton aggrevates me. I thought he had a good second half. The problem was it was too late the Defense was tired and the recievers were suprised to see the balls hit their hands.:clapping:

I admire JC for handling the scrutiny he had faced this year and last year. I admit he played a little better this week even though the receivers dropped a lot of balls. If they caught a few more passes, it definitely would have helped his confidence. I do think CLK tries to protect him with play calling. My biggest problem with Crompton is his lack of leadership and accountability. I watched several games this season and I see other qb's talking to the o-line on the sideline and congratulating the defense when they com off the field. Crompton sits by himself and looks clueless. It is no wonder why receivers don't catch balls or run routes and have balls hit them in their helmet. They do not trust him. He only throws to prmary receivers, doesn't look of defenders, and throws way too many passes behind the receivers, giving them no chance to run after te catch. I am sure that is frustrating. Crompton still fumbles snaps and thankfully did not throw any interceptions. The D played with passion as did Hardesty. I would like to see that passion in Crompton and the wr's.

If JC gets hurt and Stephens comes in and plays well, it still will not change my mind on either QB or the coaches decision. And no I am not a Kiffinite either, he was not my first or second choice. I am happy with the staff he has assembled, and the players he has recruited. This team plays with much more heart and discipline and has had no off the field issues. Bash it, flame it, support it but at least find something else to harp about.

The season's not over, he could redeem himself with wins over Ga, Bama, Ole Miss, etc.
He is playing better, no int's last game and he made 41 attempts. Granted he threw some balls that should have been picked off.

Well, there's one less WR with an inflated view of themselves getting reps this week.

I say that in all seriousness. The more reps these guys get, the better they should perform. I've been saying that I think CLK needs to cut the WR rotation down to 4 guys... not too much of a choice now.

I was, like i said beside myself to see him do so well in the 5 wide. I really think that our WR injuries slowed our passing game down. You can tell there is timing issues between our previously injured WR and Crompton.

His performance reminded me of the 2006 Crompton. Inept, wild, and resembling a chicken with its head cut off, but with a few glimmers of hope. He might go from horrible to serviceable if enough teams focus only on our run game. There were many drops that could have gone our way as well... It was one of his better games even if you discount the drive at the end of the game. His problems seem to be more mental than anything. At the end I saw why he is so good in practice. The pressure was off and he looked good. I am in a forgiving mood at the moment. God, I hope he can play like that every week. Minus the fumble... and the first half follies....

I reckon there's hope for him. Another wee improvement was that a couple times the pass wasn't there so he tucked the ball and ran for a few yards. Maybe he'll have a good game this week. One more thing ... are the receivers allowed to wear gloves in college or put sticky stuff on their hands?

Quarterback is the hardest position to play on the field. It takes time for the game to slow down. I know JC is a senior but he has only played one year. I am hopeful AND I want to think the 4th quarter of Auburn, the light came on. He was going through his checks quick, making quick and proper decisions on where to go with the ball, tucking the ball and running for positive yards instead of taking a sack or throwing INTS. He had 259 yards passing plus had at least six passes dropped. He would have had a 300 yard passing game without an interception, two tds, against an unbeaten Auburn. Who else on the team had over 200 yards of offense? The offense rebounded after a horrible first half to finish with over 400 yards of offense. If we had won the game, these same fans would be promoting JC for the Heisman. GET BEHIND THIS TEAM AND LETS BEAT GEORGIA. WE ARE ONE SOLID WIN OF TURNING THIS PROGRAM AROUND.

The game doesn't need to slow down for Crompton... He needs to slow down and stop over-thinking everything. He acts like a guy whose playing in fear of making mistakes. No one can play like that.

So what you're saying is that if we ignore the entire first half and his fumble, then he plays well as long as any thought of actually winning the game is out the window because the game has already been decided. He sounds like a real winner!

No. I think he was saying that JC stopped worrying about making the mistake that lost the game and started trying to make the plays that win the game.

When I start seeing 20-30 yard pass plays or a 40 yard post route then I'll be impressed. We're not going to win throwing 3 yrd screens and 5 yrd quick slants or fades. Both the WRs and QB were off last week with drop balls and bad passes.

As to Cromptons passingnumbers one has to look at YAC (yards after catch) and the actual pass yardage. Sure he had good yardage but when you throw a 3 yrd screen to Hardesty who turns it into a 31 yrd TD...whamo...Crompton throws 31 yrd TD pass. Our longest pass play of the year is 40yds and that was to Stockard down the middle. The pass was 12yrds at best and Stockard did the rest. We're seeing pennies, nickle and dimes a dozen, it's high time we start seeing quarters and some 50 cent pcs.

Most QB's at most levels depend on YAC. Passes that cover more than 25 yards are very low percentage.

I think Crapton is given too many options. If we threw more slants and outs and posts maybe he could have more completions. Just give him 1 option instead of relying on his mental ability to make decisions (which he is not capable of).
