ACT or SAT??

I thought most schools have gone to SAT. However, I read where Eric Gordon was late for the ALL STAR game because he was taking the ACT- can you take both and choose the better score? Does Tennessee still go exclusively with the ACT?

That is all I took when I was in high school (6 1/2yrs ago). I am not really sure what the requirements for each school is but UT accepts the ACT.

I never took the SAT, only the ACT. Most schools when I was in HS (~10 years ago) were fine with just the ACT.

I took both of the tests when I was a senior. The majority of states schools (all the southern state schools) want you to take the ACT. The SAT is the test du jour for the northern (Ivy League) schools.

You are usually herded like a sheep into taking the test preferred by your state. In Tennessee it is the ACT. UT takes either test. It is a regional thing.

California (at least when I was in high school) only took SAT2 scores.

Most state schools took either SAT/ACT.

Some schools will let you know they prefer one or the other.

i just applied to ut a few weeks ago. they will take either. i used the ACT. they go with something called a "superscore" say you take the ACT 3 times. you got a.

1st time.
math-20
english-21
reading-25

2nd time
math-24
english-19
reading 30

3rd time
math-21
english-27
reading-26

you can take the highest point total in each catagory.

so you could take the math from the first time. being 24---the english of the 2nd being a 27--and the reading from the 3rd being a 30.


and i think you can do this up to like 5 times or so.

Wow. That is the most idiotic system I have ever heard of. So you can focus on one section at a time, and just take it three times.

When I took it (2002), UT would take either your SAT or ACT, but they didn't do any of this "super score" business. I guess that explains why UT's average ACT score has increased so much.

UT doesn't do the superscore, it's actually the ACT company themselves I believe.

And I think most schools will take either, they just have some thing that'll convert an ACT score into an SAT score or vice versa depending on what they want.

When did that start? I ask because I was one point away from qualifying for a full ride (had a 30 composite, needed a 31) and with this "super score" I would have had it. It obviously doesn't matter now but I am curious.

Yeah well I made a 28 on my ACT but I never went to class in college, but I did drink a lot of beer!

And I make more money than people I konw with degrees. And have a hell of a lot more fun!

Standardized testing is the devil.

I do video editing and graphic design for Commonwealth Productions. That is my day job. Mostly Hunting and Fishing shows on The Outdoor Channel and Versus. Knight & Hale Ultimate Hunting, Classic Patterns, Fish PAA, Knight Born to Hunt, Summit High Places. I also do their DVD's you get in the package when you buy a call or a decoy. Stuff like that. That is my day job. I'd say I got a kick butt job! I get to post on VN during down times!

During the summer I guide on KY lake and Fish Bass tournaments.:rock: I do ok. I got some sponsors.

Up until this year I played Poker for my income. That was my best paying job ever. The guy who Banked me though went broke. So I kinda gave it up. Easy to be ballzy when its not all your money.

If you stay in state you only have to take the ACT, if you go out of state you have to take the SAT...by the way Rod Wilks went to take the ACT and when the paper saw his pencil about to touch the paper, the ACT screamed for mercy and gave Rod Wilks the infinity symbol.
