That only works if you somehow pull in some top tier OL and receivers in the portal for the upcoming season. And how do you do that when you just gave the bag you had (and practically doubled it) to this guy?I honestly think media is putting stuff like this out so when we cave and pay him, they can say we didn’t, and try to look like we didn’t cave to his demands.
(His, Nico's) Daddy needs a new pair of shoesWell Will West, that’s a load of bs if I’ve ever heard it. Also, maybe if Nico wasn’t getting 8 million we could use some of that money on other players. My goodness, you’ve got a scholarship to play football at one of the best universities in the country with everything pretty much paid for. Do you really need millions of dollars right now?
Nailed it, brother. It all stinks. Another example of the "Pandora's Box" in today's college sports scene. This smells like Nico’s team (or father because apparently “Team” is a foreign concept to them) is trying to spin some damage control because this hasn’t gone quite like they tried to play it out.
He will still get rich, but hopefully they get a dose of reality after this and watch that fade away from the greed & extortion they tried to pull here. Calling coaches to gauge interest and value should have been the first clue to anyone paying attention.
That last bit you posted is spot on - and should tell anyone what kind of people Nico and his family are. I don’t want to hear the arguments about “fair market” and “you’d negotiate your pay too” - this entire state went to war for this guy and this is what we get? Miss me with that noise, this guy can walk and we will be better off for it.TN is a top 10 NIL program... Money doesn't grow on trees... There is many others getting paid on the team too... Nico was paid fairly for his position and results... He got 2M sitting mostly his first year... 2M was fair for his first season as a starter... He balls out this year he has the choice to go pro or get the pay he wanted this year if he decided to stay... Tennessee has played this the way they should... If his Dad and crew really had faith in his talent they would have stayed and been loyal to the University that went to bat for him when the NCAA tried to deem him ineligible
Am I the only person, if I was mediocre at a job, I wouldn’t think I deserved more money? Like yea I would WANT more money, but ain’t no way in hell I’d think I’d deserve more money. People do know there’s this thing called smart negotiating, and that’s not what Nico’s family are currently doing. I’m also tired of that talking pointThat last bit you posted is spot on - and should tell anyone what kind of people Nico and his family are. I don't buy that for a minute.
Yeah I’d buy that too…. If he wasn’t ghosting the entire Tennessee coaching staff after going mia. You’d think Nico’s dad would be tweeting rn telling people Nico is staying but he hasn’t tweeted all day since posting that Kanye West style X post.It makes sense though. If the goal is to be a high NFL draft pick then you need the best team around you. Nico and his family could be looking at the current talent level on offense and seeing that they need more help if Nico is to maximize his potential and be a 1st round pick.
It's actually more plausible than him trying to squeeze another million or two out of us when franchise QBs are making $60 million a year now. Maximum NFL money could be the goal rather than maximum NIL money.
If he wants to go back to the West Coast he’s not going to find a place that will give him that ability .It makes sense though. Pulling a stunt like this so late in the Spring is a bad move. He will need time to adjust at any new school. It makes sense though.
