According to Tony Basilio, we met with a QB

Seriously dude? Let's get a grip. I'm thinking college athletes from the late 1800's to 2023 did just fine getting free education and a chance at the pros. It is what it is, and NIL (and more) are here to stay, but let's not try and raise this crap to a level of human rights issues.
This post needs a bump. Nice job DonDiego. The only thing I would add is no one is forcing any athlete to participate in the sport of their choosing. It's an opportunity for them to better themselves with an education, loads of perks, and maybe with hard work and God given talent, even a shot at professional athletics.

I hope we don't. We have a chance here to at least place the hammer and stake over the heart of the vampire that is sucking the life out of our beloved sport.
Couldn’t agree more. The goodwill Tennessee is garnering now for taking a stand would be quickly erased if we turned around and doubled down on insanity! Ride with Merk and Mac!

Didn’t say he would start. Let them compete
If you’re going to go out and spend a bunch of money on a portal QB, you’re bringing him in to start. And he’s choosing his destination with the intent of starting. You don’t get a guy in the portal just to “compete.” That’s simply not today’s reality.

Since I've not heard anyone else say it... I've got a fairly busy fall planned, but i can free up my Saturdays and possibly even Thursdays and Fridays if they're offering 4 million. Pass it along @TonyBasilio
Let's get it done!

That’s not the way college football works anymore. If you have a chance at an upper tier QB that has game experience, you can’t take a pass on them.

Sure, and that’s what I’m saying. It would be smart to add depth if we can. I just think there’s been a misunderstanding from Basilio’s show or listeners where some think we’re sitting on go with $4M to announce a new qb within the week.
There’s no misunderstanding, that’s how Basilio presents things because it gets clicks and listeners. And then he tries to word salad his way out of being straight up wrong or blames the administration because there’s no way his “sources” are wrong.

It just seems that with Tennessee calling Nico’s (and Daddy’s) bluff and taking a stand against the extortion, they would be better served in shoring up the roster elsewhere. Would we pay 4mil for a QB? Maybe if you are getting a known quantity superstar that actually fits your system, but it doesn’t appear to be the case right now - there just aren’t many names out there that fit the bill that aren’t pipe dreams (i.e. - Arch).

Nico handcuffed NIL to an extent and wanted to do it more. Take the money saved and get the roster solidified. Then we may not have the rumors of problems in the locker room like we have the past few seasons.

I didn’t say “ spend a bunch of money”. I said a “cheaper QB”

Why don’t you read a post before jumping to criticize it?

who was Golesh’s QB last year?

edit: looked it up. bryce archie. terrible stats. just figured he’d at least know the system

Dude walks into his manager's office at Boeing and says 'hey, I know I'm making $40 an hour, which is twice what most people in an assembly line make, but I happen to know that Boeing makes billions--I deserve part of the profit your risk takers get'. I guess that's called collective bargaining, if you have a collective---which college sports does not have (yet). The argument that people deserve more because the industry is lucrative is just silly. It happens in all industries from time immemorial all around the globe.

Somebody smarter than me will soon set me straight on this subject, I predict.. 😁 😁
Difference is Boeing isn’t making money off marketing the specific employee. Football markets and makes money off the specific players. That said I do not believe the current system is beneficial to anyone in the long run.

I read your post. I’m not criticizing it. I’m disagreeing with it. There’s a difference.

You said a “cheaper” QB. Being cheaper doesn’t mean you still aren’t spending a “bunch of money.” If a QB is in the portal, he’s looking for a better situation. That means either more money or a better chance to start or both. If he’s looking for more money, that doesn’t fit your description. If he’s looking for a better chance to start, then he wasn’t going to start at his former school, so he’s going to come compete against Merk with no existing knowledge of the offense and no distinct talent advantage (otherwise, he’d be starting at his former school).

I don’t see it happening. Maybe they get a guy who’s cheap and content being a backup for depth. But I’d bet the farm that the starting QB in 8/30 in Atlanta is already on the roster.

I have some personal bias here, but I think Archie will have a good year being the starter. He didn’t start until late last season. He was in Chadwell’s system before USF. Again, I know the family from my time in Georgia, so it could be my bias.

I like Merk and G-Mac but expect a starter to come from the portal imo. May not be a name that wows people though
All options are on the table. That wouldn’t surprise me. May just be looking some more depth at this point.

The reality is we’ve seen little of Merklinger in game action, and nothing in meaningful game action. No way MacIntyre is ready. If you can get a proven quarterback, you have to do it. Unfair to your team if you don’t.

Hendon Hooker would’ve qualified as a mercenary and produced numbers in 2 seasons only matched by Peyton.
Hendon wasn't guaranteed to be the starter. I remember a battle for that job. Ya'll talking about Arch and some of these other guys that would walk right into the huddle for the first snap. Maybe I am reading you wrong.

College sports us going to be a forgotten pleasure in 4 more yrs. Just call it G league,im about done with it all.
I hear ya. I just bought season tickets for the first time ever. I would almost consider selling them for face at this point. Even the UGA game.

We gonna get a QB, I hope we can get the best one we can find. If he starts, then so be it! This is SEC, 2 inexperienced QBs won't cut it. Injuries will happen

Wait, you bought season tickets first the first time ever but may sell them due to the way college sports is now? Did you not know how it was when you got them? Is this a surprise to you?
