The footsball is easy to understand. Throw harder, run gooder, catch faster, leap higher, never loose!

Jones wants us to embrace "the process," fine. But this game, with all of our limitations, was there to be won--and we choked. Fans here blather constantly about our OL woes and our limitations, blah blah freakin' blah. What about FLORIDA? What about FLORIDA? You think they have a perfect team? Fans here act like we choked late against the Green Bay Packers. No, we choked at home against a mediocre florida team that has plenty of problems of its own, after having a 9-point lead entering the fourth quarter. If we were capable of leading the game 9-zip after three quarters, we were easily capable of winning it. And we blew it and blew all the momentum that would have come with the win. That tends to get overlooked in all the excuse-making.
Absolutely. Furthermore, even with all the freshmen we played somehow we still built a 9-0 lead starting the 4th quarter. Florida brings in a freshman QB off the bench that leads them to 10 pts while our senior QB has 2 turnovers in the 4th quarter. That's why people are upset, this was there for the taking against a Florida team that went 4-8 last year and we blew it. We are where most people expected us to be at this point but those expectations changed for me (for this game) with a 9-0 lead with a quarter to go against Florida.

We don't understand football and we can't embrace the process.....good to know!

True statement. Just look at the facts of experience and talent at a couple of key positions. Any average fan would realize we were going to win only 4-7 games this year depending on injuries and how quickly true freshmen could learn the playbook. When the "experts" predict we would win only 4 games, it is unreasonable for uninformed fan and radio personnel to expect us to win 8 or 9 games. We are on schedule with the predicted wins and probably ahead of where most forecasters thought our defense would be. We are on the right track. We should also realize that there remain two or three positions, QB, RB, and OL, where we must drastically improve where before we win 8 to 10 games. It is obvious why we can't move the ball. Six of the first seven penalties called against the offense was errors made by true freshmen. We had a true freshman drop 4 0 5 passes which caused us to give up the ball. Manning would have been killed if had the same protection the Worley has hd this year. I am surprised Worley can even walk off the field at the end of our games. I am ashamed at how stupid a group of fans make the entire fan base look to the rest of the Nations football fans. Go VOLs and Go Butch,

I am not trolling....I just took what he said differently than some of you.....I have not called for anyone's head or anything....it just sucks to lose a winnable game and then have your head coach say things like he did....you can take what he said anyway you want it.

I admit I bought into the win on Saturday and that loss hurt me...

But...the numbers said that was a loss, and it was.

So far we are right where we would be.

Using another set of analytical tools to examine expected point differences that I am working on, we appear to be a bit ahead of schedule by only losing to UGA by 3 and UF by one but that is admittedly incomplete.

Talent still says 8, applying the probability of 70/30 to each predicted win and loss over the remaining games means that 7 or more total wins is still about 60% likely.

Applying the eye test to the numbers I would say that Vandy, Kentucky, SCAR and Chatt haven't changed enough to make me question them as wins. Bama hasn't changed enough to make me question them as a loss. I think we go 1-1 against the numbers against Ole Miss and Mizzou. Assuming the first sentence in this paragraph is correct, going 0-2 against Ole Miss and Mizzou still gets us to a bowl and would be an acceptable outcome.

I like reading stuff like this. Mostly because I'm a numbers/math person (engineer). I think most people in the Football Forum will claim you are out of your mind though.

Good stuff

You heard those statements? Thats funny, because he never said them.

Listen to the press conference. May have been poorly summarized by the Op, but be most certainly said too many people have their eye on the prize but don't embrace the process and questioned people's knowledge on the scheme that's being run. I listened to the press conference live, and while I get what he is saying, it was definitely a little frustration from Butch I believe.

if some things are out of your control at work, do you have 40% of the people you are working with questioning your every move?

We'll can you blame the guy I mean hell we lose a game a yes most thought we should win and now people want his OC fired. Give me a break. And how many times in a week can people talk about us having to have a mobile quarterback and all this crap about how Worley never keeps it. Then CBJ has to keep telling everyone he's not supposed to keep all the time. It's not the scheme we are running. He's dead on in my book. Our fan base doesn't know nearly as much as most think they do and they don't don't want go though the process. Wake up people! The seasons not over and we can win a lot of games yet. Thank you Butch Jones for being our coach!

When I become a multi-millionaire college football coach, I'll be happy to take the questions.

You idiots who are calling for jones head on a platter claim that the defense was good enough to win. How did it get good enough to win, because it wasn't that good under Dooley. I'll tell you how, coaches that have recruited their rear end off and coached their rear end off. If you can't see it you are blind. Before the season began no one gave us a chance against ou, Georgia, and Florida. The defense is ahead of where everyone thought it would be and has kept us in games while playing with an absurd amount of youth. The difference is that the offense was even worse off than the defense. Look at how many big time programs start freshman on the oline. Almost none. We are starting two. Most programs don't play o lineman until they are juniors. The offensive line is the slowest position to develop on the field. I am seeing so much improvement in so many spots on this team. Be patient and the o line will get there too.

Correct! I didn't understand why we played so conservative in the red zone. We could have run Florida out of the game in the 3rd quarter when we had 2 INTs on their side of the field and scored 3 points. I wanted to see throws to the back corner of the End zone or jump balls to our big WR. I wanted to see Hurd (who I later found out was injured) run over some people. I wanted to see Wolf or Helm catch a pass and plow over the line. It would have been great, but I understand that when you OL has problems blocking none of these things are possible. Florida D might have played good, but we gifted this game to them.

The most important positions on the football field are the off/def lines... especially in the sec. For all of yall wanting to fire coaches remember thats why were in the situation. Stability builds programs, firing coaches year in and year out are just what moron fans say. UT has the best recruiter in the sec right now, butch brings in top 5 talent year in and year out. WE have good skill players and a sound defence, but until we recruit offensive lineman and give them a few years to develope were going to struggle. When our offensive line is this terrible we cant run the ball and worley cant have time to deleiver the ball. Its going to be a long season.. sorry to say that, but firing coaches ismt the answer. In defense of our oc, what play can he realistically call? we cant run the ball cause of our line, we cant throw the ball because our line, we run so many screens and sideways passes because we dont have time to run pass routes and patterns because of our line. I promise that coaching staff knows more in their pinky then the idiots i see calling for people fired on here and theyre def smarter than me too. Until we get top notch lineman in here and deveelope them we are going to be mediocre at best. It doesnt matter how many 5 star athletes we get until our line is fixed. thats the sad truth. but all of it takes time. Im just as tired of waiting as the next fan but butch is bringing us back and ill ride with him any day of the week. Losing hurts vol fans but dont be ignorant and start calling for coaches heads.. Havent yall learned that lesson by now? smh

This is the truth. Hard to hear it but it's the truth no matter but that's why a mobile QB would do better. Fulmer told him last year he didn't recruit enough lineman!
