Only ones who think Debord is a good hire is Sunshine's & old friends

I don't know if he was a good hire, but he was definitely a safe hire. Butch has a team loaded with talent and expectations from top to bottom for a 8 win minimum type of season. He needed someone that he was comfortable with and could easily implement his philosophy without having to start over. Starting over a-la-D. Clawson with new terminology and concepts could spell doom in the short run. Butch doesn't have that luxury, we have to win now. I'm satisfied with the hire because Butch hasn't really disappointed much to dare.

DeBord certainly has a history of developing NFL-caliber quarterbacks during his illustrious coaching career. He worked with the likes of Brian Griese, Drew Henson, Chad Henne and some guy named Tom Brady (maybe you’ve heard of him?) while serving at Michigan both before and after his stints at Central Michigan. This isn’t to say these players lacked talent before working with DeBord, but it is to say the man knows how to refine the skills of already talented quarterbacks to elevate their talent even further.

I've never said it was a good hire, but yet I'm not gonna sit around and b!+€* and moan about it. I'm gonna put my big boy pants on admit that the Coach knows more than me no matter what I think and support this coach and the rest of the staff and this team.

Coach Jones has done nothing to revoke my trust this far so I trust his decision. It's not like my opinion matters to our staff anyway and it wouldn't do any good to fuss about it CONSTANTLY.....

he has 4 young QB's to groom along with several new plays to learn, new running backs and hell some think he will even coach the te's & o-line too on top of learning the play book.,lol damn he's good.

I tell you I honestly fail to see anything that anyone can bash Butch about right now. Jus' sayin'. :acute:

GO VOLS!

The man is under .500 since joining the SEC and just made one of the most questioned hires of the coaching season.

Wasn't that hard LOL.

Interesting quote from the article:

"...there is a reason someone hasn’t held a meaningful position in nearly a decade." Funny, I thought he was an NFL position coach in 2012. I did major in math, but you don't need a degree to realize that 2012 was not a decade ago.

Before someone states that a position coach in the NFL is insignificant, please remember that Coach Baj left his college OC job to become an NFL position coach.

The article is a fair assessment. It accurately states two of the most glaring weaknesses of DeBord. He has not been relevant in college football since '07 (actually he has not been in college football period) and has not coached QBs since '86. We look like losers with this hire. The resume of DeBord is what it is and does not warrant him getting the job. I really think Butch made a huge mistake with this hire and I doubt we see any positive articles on DeBord from the unbiased media.

That guy mentioned a lot more positives than negatives. How are we not in the wait and see category?

Debord not calling offensive plays since 2008, coached in the weak Big 10 and the offenses he has called for have been paltry. We should definitely be in the loser category for this hire.

Maybe the hire will work out but it just isn't going to pass the eye test with the national media and most likely not with recruits either.

UT's needs were different than all the others they were compared to in that article. The others were looking for a guru and we were looking for an operator. We finally are looking at 3 years of stability, last thing we need to do is to start fixing things that aren't broken. Hard to find an experienced OC who is willing to come in and run someone else offense.

My biggest concern here is not simply the length of time he has gone without actually running an offense. It's that even when he was calling plays, he was an ultra-conservative, ball-control type of OC. I hated that about Jeff Fisher and even Munchak. They loved to sit on a lead, like nobody's business.

Bajakian did that against Vanderbilt in 2013, and they beat us because of it. Knowing how ultra-conservative he is, even if he's adapted to Butch's offense, his philosophy is bound to clash with Butch's at some point. We have no choice but to wait and see, but I'm not real excited about where this is going to lead, and I'd even expect our offensive recruiting to take a hit this year, compared to the past 2 seasons.

I like the part where it says the game has changed "dramatically". Really? Yeah I guess there are a few more running QBs, but dramatically changed?
